99 ranger 4.0 won't start

99 ranger4.0 will not start. The theft light blinks fast. It is very intermittent. It will usually start in the daytime but not in the morning or night. I have had it to the mechanic and he said he has no idea. I have bought new key and no luck.

PATS is having a fit over something...when you turn the key on does the light come on steady and then go out or just flash rapidly like you say?

It just flashes rapidly. When the truck is running it is very strong. But it's just not dependable.

Would it be the battery even if it always cranks over ? Even when the theft light is flashing rapidly the motor is still turning over but won't start.

It could be and it also couldn't be. at first mine would crank and then one day I got stranded at a gas station because it wouldn't even click and a duramax couldn't jump it. I'd at least get it tested at autozone / advance just to rule it out since its free.

Thanks I'll try that. If anyone else has anymore ideas let me know. I'm right at the verge of selling it.
