I actually really like the 3.73..they didn`t take away any top end but gave me that little more bottom end i wanted...i have a set of 4.10`s in the garage that i might swap in for a few days and see how i like them but i think i`ll end up keeping these...

hey, this may sound dumb.. but what all does adding an electic fan do for the truck?? i too am trying to gain any power i can in my truck. are electic fans worth it??? thanks in advance!!

i don't think the difference between 3.55s and 3.73s is worth the expense. i think you guys will be happier with 4.10s but that's just me. ask around.

4.10's are great to launch with. With a gear that gains revolution as quick as they do, your out of the hole fast. The problem is when your making power with a SOHC engine.. you need upper rpm's. You'll get into them pretty damn quick.. but your out of those rpm's just as fast cause your out of gear just as fast as you were into it.

3.55's kill your 'off the line' launch. On the top end they leave you enough room to get good top gear speed.. but your playing 'catch up' to everything on the road.

The 3.73's are a happy medium. You have mid to upper rpm's which the SOHC likes and as long as your not running on offroad tires that are like 30+inches , you can get a wide power band to the ground in a pretty quick time.

I can understand your perspective as your ride is lifted and has some tires that could probably crunch a volkswagon under them

so a low gear is needed to reduce resistence and get those bigguns rolling.

Don't Rangers with SOHC have the 3.55's standard while 3.0 have 3.73s? 4.10 LS is available to both engines I know.

What is the problem with 4.10s and top end? I have the 4.10 gears with a 5 speed manual with a 4.0 and I can trip the speed limiter of 92 or 93 mph in 3rd gear. Theoretically, since I run 83 mph at 3,000 rpm's, at 6,000 rpms shouldn't I be doing 166 mph in 5 th gear?
