look down the stock intake tube. its ribbed compared to the smooth metal tube in my MAC.

you need to stop blowing **** out of your *** ALL the time and go take more photos which seems to be the only other reason youre even on this site..

To answer your first question, I have the MAC CAI

I know from first hand experience, my open cone filter K&N FIPK allowed water to be injested. Also crushed the new K&N filter. Thus my reasoning to going back to stock when this happend. I got a new K&N filter for the intake, threw it on.....and immediately noticed a power improvment compaired to stock intake system with brand new paper filter.

Yes...you remove that cardboard thing, and that thing that twists into the stock "filter bucket"......proper name I don't know...that's just what i call it. So what'll be there would be your "filter bucket" with a hole in the front of it.

To pop out that "filter bucket", spray wd40 at the holes at the bottom of the bucket. They'll pop right out, then, spray the one at the fender, it'll pop right out.

Zach, would that possibly be a "Drycharger" wrap??

When I seafoamed my truck and it was ready to be reved I noticed that when I floored it that the stock intake hose would shrink. At the time I had the silencer removed. So the stock intake is somewhat restrictive or else the hose wouldn't has shrunk at wot. I can't imagine what it looks like with a load on it.

I bought the K&N FIPK but I was unhappy because it did not shield the filter from engine bay heat. I will be buying a Volant intake in the future.

On the Ranger Stattion, MAKG is a contributer/engineer..He put a rest to this whole thing..Basically from what i remember about it..HE said the stock is indeed a TRUE CAI, and the others like K&N air nothing more than a gimmick..Because the more air you are pulling in has to go somewhere, the problem is not your stock tubing or filter its everything else, like your headers and throttle body..etc...your engine can only take in so much air, and i beleive the stock intake tube is ok, i DO agree a straighter pipe WITHOUT the ribbed for her pleasure, would be better...I just wouldnt spend that much money on one, when you can build one cheaper......Heres a quote i COULD find on TRS..

"not on a bone stock engine. Hows the cold air intake help, when it isnt the most restrictive part of the intake system? how does more spark help, then your not runing higher compression? high compression needs a hotter spart because with high compression comes higher octane fuel, which is more difficult to detonate, as well as ignite with a spark. THATS why a hotter spart is needed, more ark doesnt make more power lol. your engine is a big air pump, and in stock form(heads cam intake manafold and plenum) they can only flow so much air, regardless of how unrestricted it is from the filter to the TB. Getting from the filter to the throttle body is the easy part, getting fro mthe TB into the cylinder is where it runs into issues. Plus, a cold air intake does nothing on its own, cuz the intake and exaust ports are not going to grow on there own, alosing more air to flow, and the valves wont open up more all because of the cold air intake. Addinf more fuel to a stock engine with stock programing will cause performance and drivability issues unless things are reprogramed to work with the extra fuel.

Yes, MAKG also has enough engineering savy to realize most of the performance mods are a total waste of money!!

Get an S&B or Volant as mentioned before. All the HP gains plus an enclosed box that sucks in cold air from fender well area, just like the factory intake.

I plan on getting the S&B unit.

I got the AIRAID for 169 at performancecenter.com and as a christmas speacial i got the free throttle body spacer. it looks great and gained some hp and 2-3 mpg. performance center has all the intakes on there at good prices. I thought for the price the Airaid looked the best (just my opinion). I have pictures here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2920944

wrapping the stock intake with a heat refelcting duct wrap will make it a true cold air intake. u can remove the ribbed section with a straight pipe if u feel it nesseccary but as a few have said...its the best for almost everything.

throw a blower on and now ur in different territory. also, ever look hard at a dyno graph when it shows a hot air intake? the gains are on the top end? who really drives at that?

look up project mpg and compare the intake test. i doubt a 4.0 will suck more air in then a 460 EFI...and yet they utalized better mpg and torque with the stock set up wraped then a KN gimmic.

I gained 2-3 mpg with the AIRAID intake and throttle body spacer which is nice spending $80 or more a week on gas.

Throttle spacers have no performance benefit on Rangers, the gain is probably from changing the dirty filter.
