5 speed much more fun and you actually have to pay attention while driving which makes safer driving.

for all around driving i would opt for the 5 speed, the only exception for me would be if you are planning on doing a lot of towing, then again not too many people get a ranger for their towing capabilities...over all yeah go for the 5 speed man i wish mine was a manny tranny

well... what kind of driving to you plan on doing? if you think you'll be eventually building the engine up, i'd go 5-speed.

i had a 5-speed in my first ranger, and got an auto in my new ranger because i wanted something a little nicer. now that i've been building my engine and running nitrous, i wish i had stuck witha 5-speed. the 5r44e and 5r55e transmissions are crappy transmissions for ANYTHING other than normal daily driving.

if you'll be doing normal driving, a lot of stop-and-go driving (especially traffic), or towing, then i'd go with the automatic.

I am going with the auto, they offer a 100k powertrain for free and I don't have to pay the deductible. Its alot of stopping and going here, so. I do some light towing, so and auto just seems better.

Too late, I haven driven em both so I opted for the auto. Its all good though, I don't really care what I get as long as I get one.

i have a 5speed auto on my fx4 off road ranger. i ordered it that way for resale value, otherwise a manual would be nice. if i need to rip through some gears i use my 88 mazda 4banger 5speed. that gets my blood going.

I agree with you about the not buying rangers for there towing capacity, but after pulling 5500 pounds with my 5 speed, I will never tow with an auto again, there is so much more control, I love it.......
