bogging at 3k RPM after : throttle body/iac cleaning and plug change
SOLVED ! - I am dumb.
There's a rev limiter at 3k on automatic Rangers in neutral and park. Just went for a little ride and boy is there is a nice difference in response and pull now that she's clean with fresh plugs. 10/10 would recommend.
Leaving this up so someone else doesn't waste as much time as me...
Hey all,
Over the past two days I've put some hours into the ole engine. My 2005 Ranger needed some stuff done, so being in there I decided to get a bunch of things done. I did the following:
Changed thermostat housing
Cleaned out the throttle body since it was removed and the Idle air control valve, with throttle body cleaner
Changed the two timing chain tensioners
Changed the plugs and wires
After the first start up the engine was wobbly as hell and sounded off, I quickly shut down and realized I had inversed spark plug wires 5 & 6. For some reason they are the only two out of sequence on the distributor ( Yes I know the trick to only do one at a time -_- )
I figured that would fix it but no.. started and sounded better but still a little off
Unplugged and re-plugged all spark plug wires. I think one wasn't seated properly on the plug. Now it starts fine and sounds normal, but it idles fast (1200ish vs the 750 before) and bogs down at 3k when I try to give it gas.
I've tried resetting the comp by unplugging the negative terminal of the battery for a few minutes, also unplugged the TPS and MAF and re-plugged, same for the IAC. Still runs the same. Could it just be the computer is all messed up because of these changes?
Keep in mind I'm not driving, it's still on stands so I can access the plugs. I'm just revving in park.
TLDR; cleaned throttle body, IAC and changed plugs. Now my engine bogs at 3k RPM.
What do you guys think?
Thanks alot!!
