a/c compressor questions

Icon5 a/c compressor questions

what is the a/c compressor for? what will happen if i unplug it? will unplugging it help save gas? if the compressor is unplugged can i still use the a/c? or will i just have to roll down the windows......... as you can tell im not much of a motor head yet

the compressor is used when you have the a/c on and it uses up gas. When the a/c is off it just free spins and doesn't use extra gas. Having it removed is the equavalent of turning it off, with the exception of the weight savings, which would help gas mileage slightly.

You might strain your motor while using the ac, but you actually use more gas driving with the windows down than with the ac on... So removing it or unplugging it willnot help anything

leave it alone, as said above, when its off, its no strain on the motor whatsoever.

The AC compressor is also used to remove moisture while heating in defrost mode, and other heat modes. Leave the AC compressor hooked up.
