Engine Knocking
Ive been meaning to post this up for a little while but Ive just been trying to check a few things to rule a few things out.
Okay, Heres my deal. My 4L in my 92 Ranger is knocking. I have replaced one head (passenger side head) before the knocking started. I have driven it about 3000 miles after replacing the head and then it starts knocking. The Oil level is good (running 10W30) and the engine still runs very strong. I havent noticed a decrease in power at all since the knocking started. I havent tested the compression yet but I might do it sometime this week if you guys think I should try it. What do you guys think could be knocking? |
Anyone have any Ideas????

read somewhere to try higher octane gas
does it only happen when you accelerate? it also might be valve tap/valve lash |
when you say knock i think connecting rods hitting off the crankshaft.

Higher Octane Gas does nothing for it. It follows the RPMS but does it the loudest under a load. I dont think it is a rod because it runs way too good to have a bent rod.
I am thinking it may be a valve tap of some sort but not 100% if it is or not. |
We Seafoamed the BII I'm working on and that cleared up about half the tapping. There's a thing on TRS to fix the tap. (If i remember correctly) You'd have to tighten the rockers.
