Check engine light has been on for a while & idle speed is erratic/ & fluctuates on my 03 Ranger 4.0 5 speed manual.

I would also say that fuel economy is down but could be seasonal?

It's all stock & approx. 65 K original miles.

Any leads / tips are appreciated.

 

First check your EGR system: The EGR tube, EGR solenoid, EGR valve, and all hoses connected. I would clean the tube and hoses and buy the other two.

Bad mileage would probably be the purge system: Purge canister valve, purge solenoid, purge canister, and hoses.

Get your CEL code read at most auto part stores and see what's goin on.

 

First thing you need to do is have the code pulled.

 

Had the codes read & it pointed to both oxygen sensors.

I replaced BOTH & no change.

Tried throttle position sensor & also made no difference.

Had a recall from Ford on the cruise control & the Ford tech gave me a FREE diagnossis:

He found a perforated vacuum line.

A $12.00 molded hose at the parts store & 10 minutes later we were GOOD to GO!
