Is every 4.0 noisy?

I put a new exhaust on my 4.0 and really noticed that my engine overpowers my exhaust noise wise...like a whining noise...ive got 170,000 miles...is she just getting worn out or can I do something to quiet her down??

maybe it's an old belt... my exhaust definitely overpowers my engine noise.

my 4.0 is pretty quiet. But im running just cats, but if its a whining noise you could have a loose vacuum connection or something like that.

Yeah, these engines get pretty noisey up in the rpms. Listen to this vid. The engine noise overpowers the exhaust and supercharger...

wouldn't you think the sucking of the intake causes the engine to be loud? BTW....freakin' love the fact that it's a supercharged ranger and it's a manual!!

my 01 4.0 is louder than my buddys 01 4.0. i'm not talking exhaust right now either....both idling in a parking lot, mine is noticeably louder running when standing in front of them.

Why did white smoke come out of your intake?

I think he has the snow performance kit which injects a water/meth mix to cool the intake. I think. I am sure he will chime in.

That white puff of smoke is nos. I`m not over 400hp, that was nicksters old set-up I believe. The closest I got was 360hp and 417tq. Kept pegging the maf (gt maf w/t ee kit) so Doug had to back it down to 333hp and 370tq. Plus, Doug would`nt let me leave the dyno making 360 on a stock motor. Something about leaving engine parts all the way up I-20 to SC.

Sounds like it could be one of your engines accessories water pump, fan clutch, tensioner, idler pulley or alternator could be making noise. Pull your belt off and run the engine for a minute see if the noise goes away if it does it is one or maybe two of the accessories. Spin each one to see which is the culprit.

Ive been thinking about geting an electronic fan vs. stock belt driven fan. i heard this will quiet the enging nois consideraly exp. in high rpms. i have been interested in it for the hp and mpg gains.
