Synthetic Engine Oil

As long as your truck hasn't been neglected when it comes to oil changes, you will be fine. Leaks that "develop" when people start using synthetic oil aren’t caused by the synthetic oil. They originally had a leak when they were using dino oil but because it builds up sludge if you don’t change it out as much as it needs to be, it stops the leak and the leak is never found. When you start running synthetic, because it has more cleaning agents (detergents), it gets rid of all that crap and lo and behold, you have a leak.
I changed the Marquis over to Mobil 1 at 40 some thousand miles and have 0 problems. I changed the Ranger over to Amsoil after the first 3 motorcraft oil changes (Only because the first 3 were free).

Synthetic oil will get thru crevices and leak better than conventional. That's cuz it's better at lubricating. At such low miles you shouldn't have any problems. I bought my truck at 59k. I put Maxlife in it for the first several changes then switched to Mobil 1, then one 10k run with Amsoil and now I'm back to Mobil 1. I don't see why you'd have a problem due to synthetic.

Run AMSOIL and you will be fine.. Like others have said, it may leak but this is only because all the crap is getting cleaned out. Did you pick up an engine flush that AMSOIL makes? I would recommand it! I noramly give it free with the AMSOIL Purchases from me. That way I know for sure you are getting all the old sludge out of your motor and the AMSOIL will have a good clean surface to adhere too.... Before dropping out that old oil I recommand that you get the engine flush from AMSOIL and run that though it, reguardless if you get it from me or the local store... you are going to want to make sure the motor is clean before dropping the AMSOIL in there!

I switched to a synthetic blend at 55k miles and I have a slight leak that developed at the front of the block. I figure a couple drips is small price to pay for the better oil. It doesn't leak enough for me to have to add any in between changes but I am afraid to switch to a full synthetic for that reason.

I switched back to Mobil 1 after reading this: http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/s.../oil-life.html
It's cheaper for better protection and doesn't thicken up....it may not be a perfect test, but it's good enough for me....the other plus is I can buy this oil in many stores including my favorite, Wal-Mart.
