Fast Idle Problems

I just purchased a 2000 ranger, and am noticing that in Drive with no foot on the gas, I travel along at 5-10mph. This seems a little fast for idle.
Can that be adjusted without going to the stealership?

I think you need to clean or replace Your IAC. If you clean it, use a cleaner without solvents. Replaced (Aftermarket) will run you about 66.00

Thanks for this post! You saved me time and money! I know this is in the 4.0/V6 section, but it helped me with our Ranger.

I had the same problem, fast idle, with our 1996 2.3L. It did it a couple times over the past month, but always went back to normal idle.

Then, last Tuesday when I started it to come home from work, it stayed at fast idle the whole way home. I took the IAC off by removing the two screws (either 5/16" or 8mm), and unhooking the electrical connector. It's super simple. Don't drop the screws!

Then I cleaned it with electrical cleaner, and put it back on. It's run great the past couple days. I do plan on replacing it with a new OEM Ford part. But for now, I'm good to go.

Again, thanks Clint!!!
