Fords new 3.5L in a Ranger?

This would be more of a project for you guys with deeper wallets lol.
I have a dream, that someday, my Ranger will have 305 horsepower!
Is it a dream? Depends if yo ucan fabricate lol. I wanna know if anyone has done it or if it is even doable!
Or how about this one: An Ecoboost Ranger. Thats a lot of engine for such a small engine bay! But I want one!

No one has done it. It would fit just fine, but getting to work, that's a whole nother ball game.

You want 305hp? Get a built 5.0 and a T-5 tranny. There are 300+hp Rangers out there and not one of them has a ecoboost.

The EcoBoost is a great motor. Expect alot of modification. Tons of electrical work. New Transmission. More Fab. and a lot of money. Id assume the engine is over $8,000.00 plus trans and wiring BIG and stupid waste of money.

Heck you can 302 swap it and run a supercharger or turbo it and make more power. and have cheap easily available parts.

The Ecoboost engines have 365 HP. The regular 3.5L is 305 HP, which is in the Edge.

Wirelessly posted (Droid2)

Just find an Explorer with a V-8 and leather, and swap it all out.

These are all great ideas! and I HAVE seen a Ranger with a Cummins on YouTube and it was amazing!
And you say any 5.0 will work? What about the new 5.0 Coyote in the Mustang GTs?

If you have oodles of money to throw away go for it.

anything will work depends on how big your pocket is for the new 5L. that engine is 12g. plus wiring and new tranny good luck

Im so dang curious about that Eco-boost I've been reading everything. It would be awesome in a small truck but that won't ever happen. I want to 5.0 swap this truck one day. Next deployment.

Incorrect, the Edge 3.5 is 285hp / 243lbs torque. The 3.7 Edge is 305hp / 280lbs torque.

The 3.5 Ecoboost is 365hp / 420lbs torque. Its all about the torque, HP is in a truck is crap you want torque, but to each his own.

They are a little cheaper than that. A friend of mine has a Coyote swapped into his 86 notchback. I love that car. It's just perfect.

would it not be cheaper to grab the rear of a F150 or F250 and the engine from an F350 and put it under the hood? Basically just swapping the guts? Could probably find a few F350's sitting at a junk yard.

Thats kinda what I was thinkin. Cant you take the entire drivetrain out and modify it (a lot) to fit in the Ranger? Thatd be easier than trying to make an engine fit my Rangers tranny, which would fail the first time I stepped onthe gas anyways... Not to mention the rear end too....

You can make anything fit. You can make anything work. It's all about the time and money you want to put into it. The most "supported" swaps on R/F are the 302 and the 351. That's what most people do and that is the swaps you will find the most information about.

Some other not so common swaps are LS engines, 4bt, big blocks, and some other randoms.

Yea but I like being unique. Everyone has a small block ford in their ranger... BORING!
Its just like going to a car show! EVERYTHING has a SBC!!! I get excited to see a big block :) theres no replacement for displacement
I want something unique. Either something off the wall like a 5.0 Coyote, or even a diesel of some sort (NOT A CUMMINS!)

So go get a 1.8 TDI pushing 190lbs of torque and fab it in there, then you'll be truly unique, like a snowflake!
