fuel fill up problem

Second time this happened at the pumps. When I go to squeeze the gas handle she chokes up immediately , like it would if you filled your tank to the brim. I tried backing off up on the end of the pump, still I resort to the slowest fill up in history. MF'er just clicks(stops). I can fill it up but man, its really slow and takes forever. The first time this happened at the pumps I thought It was the station. Yet the second time? Something is up. Is the Vent line plugged up or what? Fuel line Extension problem from BL? Shed some light please.

Probably a kinked fuel filler hose. It's a common issue, especially after a body lift.

Yeah, it should be pretty much a straight shot to the tank. Any sharp bend will cause a restriction, which triggers the automatic shut-off mechanism inside of the nozzles.

How long since you have done the body lift? Could have got kinked during that.

took a look. Couldn't tell ya if the vent line is clogged, yet the BL fuel line extension looks fine...but holy smokes right at the end of the rubber line thats attached to the top of the tank looks kinked.

had lots of fill ups prior to this with no problems, what would cause such a sudden kink in the line all of a sudden? Hmmm, sounds like a call to the garage.

mine has done his a few times since the BL I just assumed it was the gasoline splashing off the extender back up to the pump and stopping it. it happens more at some gas stations than others so I am assuming in my case anyway that it is a combination of the different angle of the hose, the tube inside, and the pump handle

I guess I can try a different station all together, just to try. Since my last two fill ups were where i was having the fueling problems. Thanks mang

Probably just a coincidence because if it's a kinked or bent fuel filler it will do it every time you fuel up.

very true. If that is the case, then i will have to call my garage to sort it out. Damn this sucks! In the meantime, Im gonna try a different station down the street. And fart around with the line and see if I can fix this problem myself.

Mine does the same thing since I got my bodylift about 4-5 months ago. It doesent seem to matter what gas station and it doesen't do it all the time.I finally know I am not the only one this happens to. I am getting my Jason Rage cap put on at the end of this month at the same place and I am going to have them check it out.

I had that happen for awhile after my truck was serviced for a faulty fuel pump pressure regulator. It's extremely annoying. I'm in the habit of keeping my truck topped off when it gets to around a half tank, but I let it run completely empty, and then I didn't have any trouble filling the tank, and haven't from that point forward regardless of fuel level, like it always was.

Excuse my ignorance, WTH is rage cap? Hmmm, so this is a normal thing. Kinda of a crappy thing to happen though.

Bumping this thread up. I have two bl'd trucks. One has a proper length hose and the other has the extension. It is all due to the extension. Replaced it with a proper length hose and the problem will go away. I still need to do it on my 4x4.

Hello, first post.

My girlfriend just picked up a 2007 Ranger, and it has this problem. My first thought was to have a look at the vent hose. I did, and it was pinched between the bed and the frame. I loosened the bed and lifted it enough to get my hands in there, and replace the pinched section. I went to the gas station. Problem still exists.

So, I pulled off the bed, thinking maybe there as another pinch I just couldn't see with the bed in place. The rest of the line was good. I pulled the filler assembly off. It's clean and not kinked. No obstructions. The check valve down in the tank bobs up and down just fine. No hanging up.

I can suck air through the vent, and gag on fuel vapor in the process. But at least I know the vent is venting. I even took this thing to the gas station with no bed on it and tried filling it, both with and without the filler hose in place. Meaning, I stuck the gas nozzle right down into the tank, and it still backed up. That last thing wasn't exactly scientific. But for chrissake, what the hell is preventing fuel from entering the tank?

I'm stumped.

Holy ****, old thread.........Btw, I too had this same issue..Take the gas cap off and look at the filler hole, off to the side where pump hose goes in are 2 very small holes (for venting) take a drill bit or whatever u choose and make those holes slightly bigger...problem solved

Intersting. I hadn't looked there. At this point, I am thinking the vent fitting which goes on top of the fuel pump assembly, may be too small. I looked at one on another pump at a parts store last night. You could fit a #2 pencil through it. Mine is tiny. Maybe 1/32 of an inch. I now wonder if someone replaced the fuel pump years ago, and that is when this problem started, and maybe the answer is to open up that particular hole.

That being said, I'm going to look at what you suggest this weekend.
