have a Q after cleaning IAC
well i just changed my plugs with autolight plat2, cleaned the MAF, and i took off the IAC for the first time cause i think it was giving me some probs.
well i found out it was Black inside and all chunky lol, so i cleaned it up nice with some intake cleaner and some Qtips. and i also pulled off the intake tube and cleaned out the throttle body just the parts icould reach with a towel and some intake cleaner on it. i also opeded the throttle a little clean what i dould get with my fingers.
so i start up and the cold air intake is like 10x louder like humming/whistle, a lot louder then it normaly did. and it would some times go in and out. so i was tapping the IAC and it sounded like when i taped it and stuff it would go away a little bin then comeback.
did i wreck something in it? or is it normal for it to be louder after its actualy cleaned up?

Sounds like the IAC is shot. They like to make funky sounds when they go bad, especially in warm weather.
FWIW, Ford has never recommended cleaning the "vented-style" IAC which has been used on all Ranger engines since at least the mid 90's. The black thing that looks like a "****" on the IAC is actually a vent with a filter insdide. (The purpose of the vent is to equalize pressure inside the unit, not to pass air). On some other older Fords, there are "unvented" IACs which are the type that Ford says are OK to clean. My SHO has one of those.
I'm not saying it wasn't worth a shot, but it's been a long time since I've heard (if ever) of an IAC cleaning that actually fixes a Ranger idle problem.

Even then they are still iffy if they will work better.
Better off getting a new one.
