Ok. so i havent chimed in for quite a long time. But heres the story. I have six hundred and five dollars to spend on the ol girl and need your guys' help.
Hopefully a hundred will go back to buying my speakers back from my dad. so lets say i have five hundred and five dollars to spend on her. Its an 03 extended cab 4.0 with the five speed. Already have 32x11.50 on 15x8's on it.
I really need to do a full tune up. I already have the oil and oil filter and i just put a new cheapo air filter on it. so i will just be needing plugs and wires?
SO....
Help me spend what will be left of the $505 after Plugs and wires.
I was thinking of a good cai for it. I like the aem brute force cause its the dryflow filter. but you should know.
I also just put a dynomax muffler in place of the stock one but thats it. she's all stock.
Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Hurst shifter, the screamin deamon plug wires and an intake sounds nice? I stuff the 32's really easily right now so the body lift would just make it so that i need bigger tires.
Shouldn't i help the motor suck air a bit more efficiently by doing the intake?

I do like the screamin Deamon and scan gauge with the james duff traction bars suggestion though

 

It'll suck in more air with an intake, but no intake for the ranger is true cold air. If you route it in front of the front valance custom-like, then you'll get colder air... Ask shane.. he's pulled in air at temps of 160* with his supposed "CAI".. Same with mine.

It just lets you pull in more air... And depending on the filter, can whistle.

I'd say get a Hurst, and xcal-3... round up a few extra bucks and get a CAI while you're at it.. Check the classifieds... for all 3 things on here as well as RPS... Might get something with some miles on it, but nonetheless cheaper and the same quality as new!

MAC, K&N, Volant, AFE, AEM, S&B and Airaid. I was wondering how that AFE one would work? I know they make some good stuff for diesels and such but its a strange setup for the ranger.
I was also thinking about utilizing spectre performance's modular air intake system to peice together my own custom actual cold air intake system.

 

Sounds cheesy, but a friend of mine made his out of pvc tubing with right angle couplers and stuff... painted it flat black and you can't even tell it's not stock. It's on his 328i, but nonetheless can be made for cheap... He said he noticed a difference too with it actually pulling "cold air"

I would say run the MAC, seems to be the crowd favorite out there. I have it and so does shane. Looks nice too.

I still stand with the xcal, intake and hurst man. Again, check the classifieds before you buy though.

 

four sure. thanks man. I'm going to probably get me the screamin demon coil pack and wires, plugs, hurst and xcal. then i might throw an old school abs system on it from the home depot until i can afford the mac or a modular system

I think he got a little confused...thinking about getting some PVC for his CAI instead of buying an AEM or K&N, and using the Xcal2 so it all works with his IAC, ECT ond O2s without a MIL. ya know?

Volant is the best aftermarket CAI, its the only one with a true heat shield.

tre...not true. The Roush intake is GREAT! Even with the stock flextube, the Roush intake box was a very noticeable power improvement. Imagine it with the MAC tube or a K&N tube and an AEM dryflo filter. Coldest air possible w/o custom routing to behind the grille or bumper.



160 degree intake air on a 102 degree day trevor.....don't forget that....ad idleing. lol.

 

My stock intake air is like 75 degrees lol

 

For a 5 speed get a TUNER.

If you had an auto i would say shift kit and higher stall converter.

it's so variable...that's the thing. depends on outside air temp. humidity. elevation. speed traveling. how long you've been running your engine. etc, blahblah.

Generally....like today....67* outside. Was sucking in 60* air. Alot of variables.

So you say that the Bamachip is no good on auto's?
and a shift kit would be more along the lines of an auto??
Cant you control the shifts with the Xcal

 

I would prefer the shift kit AND converter over the bama.

Im not saying the tuner is garbage, im saying the shift kit and converter do a better job in waking the trans up. You still need a tuner for the engine. With a budget of 500 he might be able to do both, if he can squeeze in another 100 bucks for doing the fluid change.
