there is a PCm update for the bucking/jerking as well

As I've found out in tuning my own.. there are a lot of little things that ford didn't address.

i cant explain it Rich, its just my theory. Im sure you would know better than I do, but thats what i came up with watching IDS readouts

Fair enough. I suppose that an over oiled filter could gunk up the MAF wires. I believe this even happened to me on my Lightning once.

I guess for me.. to just throw rocks at or completely dismiss a product like the oiled K&N filters based on a small issue.. is like throwing the baby out with the bath water. Yes it has it's faults and short comings. But if understood and maintained properly it can also be a great product that frees up a few ponies.

btw, when I've monitored my MAF voltages I get no spikes at all. It's been about 20k miles since I've sprayed it down with cleaner too.
I reckon if someone was to never clean thiers.. they could have that problem.

Oh and btw2, I suspect the surging could be the PCM reading a flexuating "load". As load goes up / down.. the timing and fuel will very quickly jump around. That could explain why a fella might get a surge feeling.. and not throw a CEL.
Not having the tools you have.. I'd monitor timing when this is occuring.

ok so after driving my truck it seams it does it at all the shift points when i needs to downshift and its almost like a miss adjusted kickdown cable (i know i don't have one) or the torque converter dosent un lock until i let off the gas completely and re apply it. I had my transmission rebuilt in aug. of 06 and it had a new EPC solenoid along with new bands, planetary and torque converter. do you think it could still be that my air filter is causing it i do have a cone filter and not a drop in one or maybe a bad MAF.
like i said before its a 97 and i do have a x cal2 with 89 mpg tune if that helps
thanks

im not hating on all k&n filters rich, i had one on my 1991 s-10 and my 1996 f-150. i refused to run one in my 7.3 powerstroke because i didnt feel that it filtered the air enough to be used on my $1700 turbo, but i just dont like them in SOHC/5R55 combination's, i think the symptoms i saw are rare, now that alot of others did not have this problem, next time i work on a k&n vehicle, ill look at the timing when i road test it
