Intake Noise After Shut Down

I have had this noise after shut down since i got the truck. Cant diagnose it so ive just left it as is seems like nothing major. Does anyones do this. Never heard any other ranger do it except one 2.3.

04RangerDave 10-17-2011 05:59 PM

Bump any ideas?

djfllmn 10-17-2011 06:02 PM

mine does that if i turn it off and turn the key right back on...nothing to worry about

StxDangerRanger 10-17-2011 06:06 PM

Dave must be drinking in the garage again. lol.
I've heard it on many cars, it'll be alrite. i believe its the Fan Clutch.

rolsmojave3 10-17-2011 06:07 PM

Never heard it, never want to hear it

01RangerEdge 10-17-2011 06:08 PM

I've never heard my truck do that. But I've never been standing over it with the hood open when I shut it off either

it will do it if you start it, shut if off, and turn the ignition to KOEO and youll hear the noise lol

rolsmojave3 10-17-2011 06:12 PM

I tried that...nothing from odd from mine.

If I shut off my truck, then immediately turn the key to the "on" position without cranking it, then it will make that sound.

01RangerEdge 10-17-2011 06:18 PM

Why would you do that?

If I am parking somewhere, or stopping to shut off the truck for any reason. If I want to listen to the radio or a cd after I have shut the truck off then I have to turn the key.

01RangerEdge 10-17-2011 06:29 PM

I just turn to accessory if I want to listen to the radio

And its in the accessory spot that the truck will make that noise. I dont know if it is the "on" position exactly or not, I was just saying that.

FULLSCALE 10-17-2011 06:36 PM

No idea what causes it... but mine does it too once in a while!

01RangerEdge 10-17-2011 06:40 PM

Odd, I went and tried and it didn't do it

Taylor 10-17-2011 06:46 PM

Usualy when it happens to me, my truck would have to be running for a while. If I go and crank it, then shut it off it wont happen.

Strange. Now im super curious as to what it is.

Dave's truck: Questioning what we know about Ranger's since 2010.

I asked my old man. After i played the video for him, 30 some odd times.
He thinks its a pulley, or the fan clutch. Something thats being stopped when the rest of the belt stops turning.

My dads 4.0 makes the same noise when you shut it off. It is vacuum being released from somewhere, whether it be the IAC or the Vapor Management Valve for the EVAP system.

Any chance the sound is coming from the air inlet on the air filter box? Cuz if so, I know what it is, and it's not a prob.

Blhde 10-18-2011 04:39 AM

It is probably air rushing past the valves as the engine slows.

That's what I thought.

04RangerDave 10-18-2011 06:05 AM

I can feel it with my hand over the intake inlet.
