I agree. The X-Cal has been my best bang for the buck out of all the mods I've done.

A few tips..

When you reflash and have a auto tranny. After the re-flash disconnect the neg terminal of the battery, turn on/off the headlights, and reconnect.

Then start the motor and let it idle until the motor is fully warmed up. Turn the AC on and off a few times. The put it in gear and do the same thing.

This will make it learn the idle quickly and it'll reset the tranny shifts.

(I've had issues with both these things)

i did disconect the battery because it said to if it under a 98 for 30 seconds but the truck was warmed up so i let it idle for like 30 seconds and then took it out to test drive it
yeah i have noticed it being a little weird on shifting.
like if i lift and its near the shift point it will up shift really hard i dont know it it was from this or when i forgot to plug in my maf sensor.
but ill try it again
thanks
i got it from underdog performance

The shift pressure is a bit higher now. Mine does the same thing.

I had problems because I was reflashing from time to time and playing with the settings. My tranny shifts were pretty soft considering how much pressure it was supposed to be set for. Well, then I disconnected the battery and good grief does it shift much firmer.

Same type of issues with idle. Once I disconnected the battery my idle was then correct again.

I don't have mine with me but from memory...

You can read and clear DTC's
It stores three tunes and the stock tune
You can data log with a lap top

Timing 0-2000rpms
Timing 2000-4000rpm
Timing 4000+ rpms
Idle speed in N & P
Idle speed in gear
Speedometer correction for aftermarket tires & gears
WOT A/F ratio
Shift pressure for each gear
Shift mph for each gear

I'm sure there is more..

I believe there are different models and what you can do varies. The Strategy Flash you can't tune on the computer I don't think.

If you get the right tunes and they are unlocked, you can do "tweaking" on the computer but not full tuning. The software is free from SCT's website.

I have the original Xcalibrator (the so-called "Xcalibrator 1") and with unlocked tunes I got from Fred I can tweak the shift pressures, idle, some degree of timing, tire size, and so forth from the computer. It's almost as good as having the Xcal 2 but it's not as "sexy" because there's no diaplay on the unit -- the box just does the reflashing for you. All the "good stuff" you do on the PC.

You can't "backload" the tunes. You must have the tune files and you don't so you're not doing anything wrong.

Ask the supplier of your tunes for the files you need -- they can email them to you.

Xcalibrators cannot backload to the computer by design. So without the files the computer software is useless.

I don't have and Xcal2 and I can't answer that for your model. Some can right from the display, and some can't I believe.

And no: you can only change the tire size on tunes you have for your truck. It's a vehicle specific tool. Once you return your vehicle to stock, you could load the tuner with tunes for another truck, but then your truck no longer has ANY changes.

Only one vehicle at a time per tuner. No exceptions. That's how they do it to keep people from ripping off tunes.

Yes, the live data display works on any Ford and may show data from some other vehicles depending on what data they show. The extended PID's duplicate in some cases the "universal" PID's which all OBDII vehicles share. The extended PID's are the way to go though because you can see so many things.

I wrote a program to use them with my old ELM320 based system so I could view the evaporative emissions control data and troubleshoot an EVAP system self-diagnostic failure I was having. Such data access is of incredible value when troubleshooting for sure.
