little bit more power?

just wanted to know what you guys would do first to add a bit more power for my 2011 4.0sohc ranger. i had a 88 notchback mustang and it was a carb setup so all this is very new to me...thanks in advance!

Still have the stang? Drop that baby in the Ranger bay son! And go to a real track. Stay off the 401 hwys!

K&N, exhaust and a tuner or Jet module.

Its about 14hp for the K&N, 10-20hp for the exhaust and the module is about 10-25ish i believe.
Hitting a dyno this summer, I'll post some results.

EDIT: JET pcm is 14-17whp as tested by JET on a mustang chasis dyno

I'd be suprised if you saw 34-60 hp with just intake, exhaust and a tune. I'd say 20 hp max.

x2 on the :bsflag: ... i have an intake and exhaust and id be lucky if i made 10hp off of both of them

Just putting the numbers i was told per mod by manufactures. Of course they'd be lower in a combo. I'm expecting about 25 on a dyno but i also run a 5 speed.

I also use a Jet Performance MAF that is a bit smaller than stock and results in better air flow.

The usual first steps to adding power is let the engine breathe better.

Tuner for sure.

Exhaust will help slightly.

Re-gear maybe? If you dont already have 4.10s, then they are great on city roads. Better with bigger tires on the highway though. I have 4.10s and this thing will launch.

Edit: Dont speed lol

performance parts give you the most gains when combined with complimenting parts... not less. and those manufacturers always boost there numbers and dyno test in ideal power making conditions your truck will never see

i have an exhaust on my truck and i would put money that anyone who has installed any type of exhaust system on a 4.0L SOHC ranger has not gained any power at all. probably lost power and torque if anything. the only exhaust upgrade that you might gain from would be full header back exhaust coupled with an intake and tuner.... other than that i really doubt you are getting another 20hp from all your mods let alone 60

09UAV 02-23-2011 06:27 AM

If engines breathe better they make more power.

I've seen a performance filter installed into stock airboxes make 3hp to the wheels on vehicles, not a ranger mind you, but it still goes back to air flow.

Also, adding some electric fans or an oil cooler increases power. Only a few ponies, but every bit helps.
