New Thread on Explorer Intake...

We (a few of the mich. members) have been wondering if the explorer intake would fit the ranger 4.0. After seeing the closed thread, i thought i'd jump on it now. It seems that it could be very possible, and if the word is true, this would give you better low end torque?......Any ideas? Thanks everyone.

I have also pondered this. I am pretty sure it will work, but you will have to change several things, not too intense, but a lil more than just the intake. I dont think for the amount of work required, and the amount of swapping parts, it would be worth it. If anyone does this and has proven dyno sheets that it is worth it, I would like to see it as well as Mark!!!

you have to change a few minor stuff my dad's buddy at work did his. when dad was in dyno they noticed the explorer intake did offer better flow and more hp.tq, they did that because the explorer was supposed to have a higher payload...

Hmm, interesting. What other components do you think we'd have to swap from explorer to our 01-03 4.0 to make this happen?

I know for sure you will have to swap the fuel rail, some brackets, t-stat housing, upper radiator hose, air inlet pipe, vaccuum lines, I am sure some wire harness re-routing will be required... The computer should be re-tuned as well to compensate for the longer plenum runners... Some of this may not be required, but lookin at it, it all seems to be necessary.

Home for me is in Northville, but I have been up in Midland for the past 3 years for school. Im rarely in Northville or that area. I think we should do a get together soon, dunno if you guys already have had one lately or not, but I would drive down on that side of town one weekend to meet up.

-mark sorry this thread got a lil off-topic!

Oh its cool, I was just sayin... That is the gen. 1 explorer intake. What he is talking about is the gen. 3 mountaineer intake. Kinda resembles the old 5.0 intake. Thank you for your find though!
