I was driving today and started smelling oil so when i got home i popped the hood and holy cow talk about smelling oil so i started looking around couldnt really see anything then i climbed underneath and my hole oil pan is covered in oil along with right next to it off the oil pan it looks just like oil next to it however it looks like oil anti mix. i will actually get around to trying to figure it out tomorrow but i was wondering if 4.0 have any known issues around the oil pan or anything?

 

I had a leak one time in my Ranger and it was a loose oil filter.

 

SOHC dont usually have a problem the older OHV have valve cover issues.

 

ok so finally got time to get under there and look more and its not engine oil its gear oil so my question is what is to the left of the oil pan if you underneath from the front is it the front diff or transfer case?

 

You probably have a bad front pinion seal. Clean under and drive around then look to see if you can spot where its coming from.

 

i know where its coming from i just need to know what the piece is called to get parts for it
