Oil leak 4.0 sohc.

Recently did an oil change, and notice that i have an oil leak coming from my front crank shaft, right under the harmonic balancer. Its not bad yet...Im hoping it might just be a bit of blow-by from putting a bit too much oil in it. Its the kinda leak that just chills there, hasnt started dripping onto the drive yet...so its not an emergency atm.The chiltons manual just says to remove crankshaft dampener, remove seal and put new one in...not real helpful. Doesnt mention any special tools or anything like that.

In any case, i was hoping yall could give me some pointers on changing this seal out, from some people who have first hand knowledge

You mean this guy? https://www.ranger-forums.com/showth...monic+balancer

I think he left for greener pastures, maybe hell see this and chime in though. From the posts it looks pretty simple, some good info there. I wonder why you cant just pry the balancer off with your fingers??? i hate special tools...

I dont let anyone touch my truck anymore. Last time, the dealership told me my front pinion seal was leaking and even wrote it down for me. I took their word for it and i came back the next day, the same dude was like its your rear pinion seal thats leaking....? wut... they took a look under it and couldnt find exactly what the hell they were talking about less than 24 hours earlier. Gave them one more shot, and took it in for an oil change, they put 5w20 in it...I mean cmoon it says 5w30 right on the cap.

I do my own work now, id rather let it leak forever, if i couldnt fix it myself... rant over lol

you just gotta pull your harmonic. theres some tricks to doing this, use google my friend.

as for the dealership, file complaints and find a new dealer. every dealer in my area is junk, but the one i bought it from is great. they cover my warranty on ball joints even with spindles and 33's on my truck.

I guess ill have to get the special tool, i cant find one at harbor freight. I wonder if a gear puller is the same thing, chiltons manual didnt mention anything bout it though.

i def. need to find a reputable ford dealer, they also torqued my wheels to almost 300 ft lbs and warped my front rotors. Its good to hear you found one though, gives me some hope lol.

Anyways ill be sure to post pics when i tackle it next month. Im currently rebuilding my front suspension and steering so its just gonna have to leak for now.
