Oil pressure sending unit location on 4.0 6cyl

One of my very few complaints about my 08 is the lack of an oil pressure gauge. I bought an Autometer electric oil pressure gauge, (and t- if needed) and mounting cup for the gauge. Where should I be looking on the engine for hooking the sending unit up?

(I actually bought the gauge for my Corvette, but went with a mechanical hookup for that)

Thanks- Paul

Look at the back of the engine on the passenger side that where it is on my 3.0 might be the same for the 4.0

4.0 is on the driver side of the block near the front below the A/C compressor. Easier to see from below or through the wheel well. I believe that the wire color code to the factory pressure switch is gray for 2007/8.

rwenzing, You seem to be the "go to guy" for all Ranger/Ford stuff. I'm thinking of doing a mechanical oil pressure gage for my 2005 3.0L. Where's the oil sending unit for a 3.0L or is there a 2nd plug to an oil pressure galley? I will definitely run a copper line, not the plastic. Also, want to hookup a volt meter, where's the best place to tap into on my engine?

The factory O/P sending switch on the 3.0 is in the block behind the passenger side cylinder head. Look in through the PS wheel well and push the rubber splash shield out of the way. Your 2005 wire color code should be green/white.

Thanks rwenzing! A picture's worth a thousand words! Now to get ambitious and hook them up. How about the volt meter, should I come off the alternator, battery or fuse block?

I guess that's your choice, just be sure that it is correctly fused and wired. For any monitored circuit that is not controlled by the ignition switch, you'd also need a relay or other method to shut off the gauge when the ignition switch is off.

Unless there is a specific reason to do otherwise, I would take the easy way out and wire a simple voltmeter in the interior. The dash is full of wires that carry keyed battery voltage and are already fused.

location of oil pressure switch on 1995 4.0 6 cyl

I have a 1995 4.0, 4wd automatic, does not have a/c. Oil pressure guage started reading a little lower than usual. Nothing else out of ordinary, no funny sounds other guages read normal. Oil level full . Could o/p switch be going, and where is it? Haynes manual says by oil filter? Thanks.
