Oil pump Going out?

Ok Here it goes. My oil Pressure Fake gauge has been acting squirreling lately on cold start ups. It will jump around like a frazzled teenager at a nudie bar. Now This is actually what happen before the oil pump went out on the impala, except for a few differences. One the impala has a real gauge so I knew the pressure at all times and it was summer so the oil flowed a little smoother. Now since the explorer is the only winter vehicle I have here I can't let it die. Do you agree with my thoughts that it is the oil pump? Or am I just paranoid and this is normal for a 150K mile 4.0 on a 10* night?

What about the Squealing from the engine that it made at lunch today. How are you all sure it is the sender? It literally stayed at 0 for a While and then jumped up to normal and the squealing stopped. I was about half a second away from shutting her down when that happened.

not 100% sure it is the sender, but that is the BEST place to start.....

are you sure the squeek wasn't a belt squeek that just so happen to do it at the same time as your sending going out

If it is it would be the first belt squeak ever from this truck. I will replace the sender, But I have a Bad feeling there is more problems. Usually when I get this feeling I am right.

No but I haven't ran it since. I left it at work and walked home (I live half a mile away)

Good decision, right there.

FWIW, you can plumb a real oil pressure guage right where the sender goes and know fo' sho'.
