i have seen adds for buying a larger crank pulley that is supposed to give more horse and relieves engine stress.. does anyone have experience with using these??

if so i am wondering what the yields are from this upgrade and what i can expect for install.. is it a simple reach with a wrench deal or is it an epic ordeal?

I think you mean a vibration dampner, you probably don't need one. I know the 4.0 has one.
An underdrive pulley will yeild more power, aftermarket vibration dampners are more for high hp race engines.

 

actually its an under dirve crank pulley..

thats the name of it and the info is as follows:


"An underdrive pulley system for your Ford Truck will increase engine horsepower and IMPROVE GAS MILEAGE by reducing the amount of power required to drive external engine accessories on your Ford Truck. The alternator, power steering, water pump and air conditioner all rob horsepower from the engine. When you replace the factory-sized crank and accessory drive pulley on your Ford Truck with a resized underdrive pulley, the accessories are slowed, resulting in more horsepower available to drive the rear wheels. Typically, an underdrive pulley will increase output for your Ford Truck by 12-15 horsepower, resulting in quarter mile improvements of .2 to .25 seconds. In addition, mileage improvements of 2 to 3 mpg are typical."

You won't get anywhere near 12-15 hp with just an underdrive pulley.

 

oh okay that helps alot.. i see that they are only 269.. and thats why i would say if that one pullley swap would give good hp gains... then i think it would be worth it..

On a jeep with a 350, yes. The power gain is noticeable with 1-2 mpg increase.

oh there is that kit for 379 for all of them being mine is 4.0L would you recommend it? and would i notice the difference??

 

Ive heard very good things about it from other members but I do not have that kit. Also underdrive pulleies work well on rangers when coupled with an E-fan.

I will buy an underdrive pulley after I buy a tuner.

 

F150 w/ the 5.4L cranked out an extra 15hp with just hte install of the underdrive pulley. I've seen the charts, but have no numbers or pics for you.


On the 4cyl's and 3.0L V6's...it's a simple bolt on bolt off. The crank pulley 'piggybacks' on the harmonic balancer. Also...cheap.

On the other hand...4.0L's have the pulley built into the harmonic balancer, thus making just the pulley un-replaceable. So...more money up front. You install it the same way as replacing a harmonic balancer. 3 jaw puller and a decent sized bolt.

Have you tried searching the subject about the 4.0L with the underdrive? There's a really good write up by a member and I recently 'bumped' the thread with my questions. Tons of great info...Tons of results and such. I want to say member's name starts with Worpondal? Definately not sure on the name of the member.
