I'm not quite sure what i have in my truck.. specs-wise.. i've had the truck only few months now.. and never looked into finding out what all i have. All i know is i have a 2001 4.0 sohc auto 4x4 edge, ext. cab.. does anyone know what size rear i have? also.. what gears do i have?? anything else i should probably know i have?? thanks for lettin me know!!

ok, theres a tag on the axle that tells you

it will be an 8.8 rear, and the tag will tell you what gears...

also the sticker on the door sides should say the axle code, copy down the numbers and post it so we can help more

90% chance you have 4.10's
8.8" ring gear rear end.

Just read around the forums for awhile.. you tend to pick up stuff....

ok, maybe im being retard...

i thought the gears where labeled on the doors too

guess not

2 options then, look at the axle tag or find the orignal sticker

The door has an axle code which you can look up on the web or even..... in the owner's manual, at least they used to be in there.

The axle tag spells it out in a number plain as day.

hmm
youre axle tag looks kinda funny, make sure its all cleaned off, should say something like

4L10 88

make sure the bolt is not covering half of it

IBLKOUT02 on your door it says axle and the code number is 97 you have a 8.8 4:10 open

And to the first guy that asked your door said axle code R7 you have a 8.8 4:10 limited slip

an open is good for people who dont mantian there vehicle limited slip you have to maintian it much more so that you dont fry the clutches inside i said the hell with my open and have put a locker in and i enjoy the locker more then that pos open...

There is nothing to maintain in a Traction Lok differential, or a Torsen differential (both Ford OEM limited slips).

I dont know if this sounds right but mine is an open but when i put it in 4x4 mode it locks up

No, that does not sound right, unless you have put in some after market parts like a selectable locker, electric or air operated.

here is the rear end codes i'm working on a how tgo on the vin code and door tag this info will be on the dirve door post

The following lists the gear ratios on axles.

86 — 3.73 non-limited slip.
87 — 4.10 non-limited slip.
89 — 4.56 non-limited slip.
F6 — 3.73 limited slip.
95 — 3.55 non-limited slip.
R5 — 3.55 limited slip.
96 — 3.73 non-limited slip.
97 — 4.10 non-limited slip.
R6 — 3.73 limited slip.
R7 — 4.10 limited slip.
KA — Electric vehicle (no ratio).
Transmission Type
