rev over 3000rpm

2001 ford ranger 6cyl 4.0 when reving eng in park and tack goes over 3000 feels like it wants to cut out, is there a limiter on the eng., just purchased thank you

Yes, you have a rev limiter, its there so you don't over rev it and hurt the engine

And before you ask no it can't be changed without a programmer, and you shouldn't change it

It's to prevent drivetrain problems. Keep it there.

Guessing your age by grammar and punctuation, I'd say it's a good thing it only goes to 3,000 RPM in park or neutral. Prevents nice 5,500 RPM Neutral to Drive experiences.
