Rough idle, and low on power
Rough idle, and low on power
I just got done shaping my 97 4.0 for a 93 4.0 motor and transmission, we used the 97 wiring harness and intake on the 93 for less of a headache. We deleted the egr, it never had a muffler or real a real cat, it has one hollowed out and where the other one is supposed to be there's just straight pipe. Once we got everything put back together, it now has a miss and whenever you go to move it feels like it's really down on power, so it just ends up dying. So far I've checked the MAF sensor, IAC valve, and oxygen sensors, good gas, even a cat simulator for the oxygen sensors and still no changes. Kinda at a loss of what to do so anything would help. TIA

Welcome to the forum
What were the compression numbers for the used 1993 4.0l?
Expected is 155-160psi
There is no mechanical or operational reason for any 1990-2000 4.0l OHV long block to not work fine in any 1990-2000 4.0l Ranger
When cold engine is started the computer doesn't use most sensors, it runs pre-set air/fuel mix and spark timing based on tables in memory
ECT sensor matters since it sets the CHOKE for cold engine start
And sensors rarely fail
O2 sensor is the only one that wears out, runs out of chemicals after 100k miles or 12 years, but its not used on cold start, needs to be heated to above 650degF to work so 5 minutes or so of run time needed
Re-check Coil Pack wiring, this is often mis-wired
3 4
2 6
1 5
front
the 5 6 4 side often gets mixed up
Follow #5 wire to #5 cylinder, same for 6 and then 4
The 1 2 3 side should be checked but hard to goof that side up, lol
