Screamin Demon, Plugs, and Wires

I am considering getting a screamin demon coild pack with some underdog performance 8mm wires. What plugs have you guys had the most success with when used with the screamin demon? I was thinking maybe some bosch +4's or autolite double platinum's. Any suggestions?

i think that on our trucks, those are all pretty ho-hum mods.

i don't think the coil pack is appreciably better than what you already have. i'm pretty sure that the screamin' demon coil pack suggests a similar plug gap to what your truck uses factory. so in theory at least, there isn't much gain to be made there.

the wires likely won't make much difference unless you need to replace your existing wires anyways, then go for it.

asking about spark plugs always seems to start an arguement here, especially the bosch +4s. some people have said that it made their truck run like poop, and others claim no problems. there was a recent thread here about them, just look a little ways back in this same sub-forum.

all told, you could probably save this money for elsewhere.

Your OEM coilpack will be way more reliable than the Screamin Demon due to the SAE testing that the Screamin Demon doesn't have. So, stay with the OEM coilpack, and Motorcraft double platinum, or finewire platinum plugs.

The Screamin Demon pack has never caused any problems to their owners regardless of what testing has or hasn't been done to them. Good aftermarket products, like this coil pack, are designed to meet or exceed OEM specs. The pack also allows you to run a wider gap in the plugs.

I have not had a problem with Bosch plugs but others have. I am guessing it is because of quality control not product design. I run them in my truck now but I will not use them again. I will be switching to NGK Iridium plugs.

Id say you will only see gains from better wires and the better plug if you have a lot of other mods. But not all aftermarket products are inferior to OEM parts. They are probably better since OEM is not always the best and no matter how much "research" goes into OEM parts, the auto maker will usually make them cheap. Do recalls ring a bell?

Why you always argue?

The screamin demon coil pack is a good product. I us to use them on, before I create my own coil-to-plug set up

One day I'll buy a SD coil pack. But for now I've increased spark strength via a different method.

I use a very high quality plug w/a smaller gap. Works fine for me in a daily driver way as well as spraying a 60hp shot of nitrous.

Check out my spark plug web page.

Not arguing, just stating FACT that the Screamin Demon (made by Performance Distributers) DOES NOT do the recommended SAE reliability testing, or production testing that the OEM coilpacks get.

Check out these links, obviously there are many unhappy Screamin Demon customers:

?
Obviously, unless the SAE recommended testing is done, there is no way to determine if the Screamin Demon meets OEM specs or not! Do you ever wonder why the "OEM specs" are the standard?

And, check out this statement from NGK regarding running wider spark plug gaps with aftermarket ignitions:

"With this mind, many think the larger the gap the better. In fact, some aftermarket ignition systems boast that their systems can tolerate gaps that are extreme. Be wary of such claims. In most cases, the largest gap you can run may still be smaller than you think."

I don't see Ford Ranger anywhere in those threads. Also they are all old threads. I'm sure any problems have been ironed out since then.

Obviously Ford has low standards since there are so many recalls on their OEM parts.

That statement about wider gaps may be false. But if you haven't tried it then how do you know? Trial and error. If it works cool and if it doesn't then all well. The world doesn't end if you try something and find no improvement.

I vote no on the +4's, or any bosch plug really.....i've always had bad luck with them. +2 or +4's, you are unable to set the gap. That's an issue...

Best plug luck i've had on my 4.0, has been the Autolite Double Platinums..APP5144.

If this turns into another OEM vs Aftermarket fight, I will delete every response remotely related to it and bring the thread back to yesterday. So don't waste your time with this repetitive argument. It is getting old.
