"tranny flush" and "fuel service"
1) tranny flush
i am well overdue. i bought the filter kit, and i need to buy a case of mobile1 atf, and then im ready to go. my question is, on my tranny cooler, which line should i pull to drain with? should i pull both? also, do i need a case of crappy mercon v and then some good stuff like mobile 1? so i can be for sure to get it all out? would it be okay to drop the pan and filter, replace the lost oil, and then have a quicklube use their machine on it? whats better?
2) fuel service
my local shop has what they call a fuel induction service aka a "bg" service? this is where they hook up a machine to your fuel, and pump something through it to clean out the carbons and other buildup. does seafoam do the same thing? i understand its pretty good, and ive read all the posts on it, and what to do with it....some simple suggestions on this stuff would be awesome!!!

I dont know if any of you have heard of Wynns Oil Company, but my dad's the distributor for Western New York. I've been working for him for almost a year now. Needless to say "BG" is our competitor. I dont really know how well the BG machine works but i know ours completely cleans out the system. Its like 96 percent effective. This also applies to the tranny flush. You can do all this stuff by yourself but i know that the effectiveness of it goes down dramatically. I suppose the only setback of doing any of these services is the fact that this 20 dollar service for them, costs us anywhere from 90-200 dollars.

Actually your information is outdated.. The latest m1 atf susposedly meets
mercon and mercon V specs (on the bottle)
I used redline D4 atf myself.
With how easy it is to do.. I'd just grab some regular mercon V spec fluid
and do it every 20000miles or so.
I suspose if you wanted to go really crazy you could put an inline magnifine(sp?)
filter for the transmission cooler line too.

i know most of you guys are big on doing everything yourself, and believe me I understand because im the same way. But by going to your local shop and letting them do it, its definatly about 50 percent better than doing it yourself. While you can get about half of the old tranny fluid out, the stuff that stays in there very quickly taints the new stuff. Sure it helps, but the fluid becomes dirty so much quicker.

You can drop the pan change the filter.
top it off
disconnect the trans cooler lines (easiest on the 4x4 external cooler)
start the truck
as its comes out, fill the trans thru the dipstick tube
after 10 quarts
shut off the truck
then top off the trans again
I have yet to do this but it can be done.

At our dealership BG products is all we use as almost all ford dealers use. If the "flushes" are done correctly you should be able to get almost 95% of old trans fluid out and new in. It will not exchange fluid from torque converter but it will from valvebody and cooler. There are two cans that come with the flush one is a cleaner that you pour in the filler and let the truck run for about 15-20mins that is suppose to break up and thin out the fluid to allow it to flow better, the other is a smooth shift formula that is pretty thick and just gives a nice coat over seals and clutches. As far as the induction service goes you do shut the fuel pump off and hook the bottle to the fuel rail and run it until it dies. The other can is ran through the throttle body i like to open the throttle body up a little by putting a peice of cardboard inbetween the linkage this removes carbon from the throttle body and prevents binding, then theres one more can thats added to the fuel tank. I would recommend taking to dealership but i know how expensive that is also, im glad i have access to all these machines and extra flushes lying around.

IT is the newest M1 formulation. Back in either late may/early june
I went to autozone they actually had 3 different formulas on the shelf
Newest in front (dual rated) slightly older in middle.. not dual rated.
and some in the back that was WAY old like 5years+ I told them and they were
like really.. oh well.
I was pissed I needed 2 qts and they had 1 new, 1 old and 3 really old

is "bg" service refering to the fuel line cleaning, or the tranny flush? or both?
just curious so i can stay straight. truck is back in the shop again, the o-ring on my power steering pressure line went bad again....****!
im driving a 2001 elantra with the drivers rear door smashed in and every idiot light on the dash on, even the traction control....i didnt know hundai's had traction control!!!!!

does anyone know which line off the tranny cooler to use to drain? will either one work? i need to do this on sunday, and im either going to:
1) drop the pan/filter, change it, and then have the service done to flush out the old crap (after topping it back off from what i lost)
2) do the above, and then do a self flush with the new stuff (some cheap crap, and then 12q of the good stuff.
let me know what you recommend
