simple...more horsepower!
anyone know the best ways to gain horsepower and torque? i already have a gibson cat-back, but i really want something else that will give me much more power to the wheels. thanks.

EE supercharger kit, new underdrive pulleys, v8, cold air, efan
|
EE wont work on the OHV, i think procharger is the only one that has made a kit for that 4.0 but im not sure.

underdrive pulley, xcal2, efan, headers, CAI, there is also a new coil pack by Screamin Demon that you can get from www.stuffforyourranger.com .. actually all of those items can be found there..

ah missed the year i was so excited lol... i remember someone asking about the OHV with a super a little while back... ill try to did it up if your actually intrested...

Drop in a nice 390 or bigger FE big block :-D

As far as the easiest *bolt on* product that will give you "much more power to the wheels" is simply..... nitrous oxide.
If you want to know more about that route and want to know how to keep it safe.. let me know. I know a thing or couple hundred about making power with nitrous. :27: Rich |
ummmmm.....geeze i think we get one of these threads a week now!
here are some ideas.....it is NOT cheap to make a 4.0 a power demon! -efan -underdrive pulleys -intake -Bama Tuner -find a Vortech supercharge kit (they dont make them anymore so you will have to find one) -Screamin' Demon coil pack -Comp camshaft -put lower gears in the rear end will make you think you have more power because it will put more power to the wheels... or if you want a lot of torque, sell your truck, buy a diesel....that is the only for sure way to get 300 horsepower and 600 ft./# of torque! |
There is a fundamental problem with a 4.0L in a 4x4 ranger. It's a short stroke motor.
A short stroke motor belongs in a high rpm 2wd application. Not a low rpm 4x4 one. These things ought to have a slightly longer stroke than bore size. And really.. nitrous can get expensive if your 16yrs old.. or constantly act like you are. :biglaugh: *IF* I were going to make power with my 06 FX4? I'd look into a single small turbo with an air to water intercooler. I'd max around 8-9psi at about 2800rpms, have the supporting fuel system to support it, and just not worry about the top end power. *IF* I were to spec a totally new engine. I'd go with a 5.4L with the two rear cylinders chopped off. Rich |
tighten your throttle cable and bring you gas peddle back up to stock so your getting full throttle
|
Do the 05 Rangers with the 4.0 have that same throttle cable problem?

its a problem on older rangers because the cable has stretched since it was new so yours COULD be, or COULD NOT be needing it. Have a buddy put the peddle to the floor and check if the throttlebody is fully open (while the truck is off of course) |
ahh ok thanks.

With a normally aspirated engine you are only going to get marginal power increases with bolt-ons without upgrading the cam and heads. Comp Cams makes a cam for our 4.0L but it's pricey. There used to be a company that made heads but I think they went out of business. If I ever need to tear down my engine for a rebuild I'm going with Comp and maybe a good port and polish. Honestly though, I would much rather stab a diesel engine in there... maybe like a v6 powerstroke if there was such an animal.
