I have a strong gas smell coming from my truck by the back of the cab and my truck is throwing a code for some purge valve for the gas canister. I took off one of the hoses to the canister and there is a strong gas smell like its dumping gas into it and not just fumes, plus the truck has a rough idle to it and gets lousy gas mileage any ideas?

 

HAHA serously i am not laughing at you just happy to hear i am not the only one that this happened too. 99% your top of your fuel pump has rusted out and has pin holes in it like mine. my truck smelled horrible of gas near the tank on the truck when you walked near it almost lik someone dumped gas all over it... i have a thread on when i fixed it let me go find it... oh btw you will need a new pump... also TAKE OUT your old one and take it up to the store with you there is 3 different versions of pumps the first time around i was given the wrong one.....

btw its easier to get to the pump with the bed off, droping the gas tank is a PITA and 100% inpossible with my truck the bolts holding the tank strap on are so rusted they rounded min i touched them

my canister purge valve went bad and the truck went into "limp mode". crappy gasmileage, no power. if it is th epurge valve you should have it replaced because if you let it go to long it can destroy itself and that costs a lot more money. what code is your truck throwing?
