Spark plug change help asap
So, in the process of changing my plugs, 1, 4,5 and 6 were a breeze, 2 was a nightmare, and 3 looks impossible without some serious disassemly....can anybody tell me the easiest way to change cylinder 3's plug? 04 Edge, V6,

i've never done it, but alldata shows to remove the right front tire/wheel, and remove the inner fender splash guard(the rubber) i know on the old s-10 blazer that was the easiest way too...

When I did mine I took the Passenger side wheel off and reached up under the inner fender. I used a 3/8" ratchet with two 360 degree swivels. The two rear plugs on the passenger side were a real pain. I hope this helps.

I ran into this mess a little while back too. I used a breaker bar and cheater bar to loosen the plug and get the leverage needed with such limited work space. Then shoved my arm under the hoses and unscrewed it by hand. Ya it's a fight but it's gotta come out somehow. Also with what somebody said on here, I used to have an S-10 Blazer as well. Hated trying to fight the plug that was right behind the steering column. Real PITA as well.

yeah ive changed the pluges on them motors a time are two go thorugh the fender to get #2 and for the last one you have to get it from under the truck thats the easey way that i found

better get some scrawny arms cause the heater box makes it an a-hole to get to those back two

haha there a pain in the ass and im lucky i just lay ontop of my motor and slide my skinny arm down in there and losses it up its still hard but it makes it easier if you have skinny arms.

Sit on top of the engine. That is how I have done numerous 4.0 Rangers/Explorers.

o plz it doesnt hurt i cut my hand one time and had a puddle of blood on the floor and then i got up when i was done and clean off my arm and my hands then drove my self to the hospital to get a stitch in my finger. lol my mom was screaming at me till i was done with my truck and i told her i wasn't going any where till i got it done. |

what year is your Ranger
mine is a 2002 4L and I can change the plugs in less than a half hour ... the key is to take the passenger side whell off and splash gaurd as noted ... all I use is a 3/8" ratch, 6" extension and a universal ... put the uni next to the socket and it's a piece of cake .........

i got the ohv motor i can have mine changed in 10 min there super easy

hehe, easiest way to change spark plugs? Invest in a 3" BL... I can literally reach up with the wheel well still on and see each plug on the passenger side right through that second inner flap guard thing. But, thats only if you have a BL, I'm happy I did mine now.. :-)

I removed the wheel and the wheel well. If I ever have to do mine again im taking it to the dealer. Heres a how-to I did a long time ago.

Step four: Wait for the machanics to change your plugs. Step five: Repeat step one. Step six: Drive home. Method 2 Items Needed: A Plug socket along with a ratchet wrench. Medical Insurance. A lead pipe. A couple of Band-aids. Friend. (optional) Step one: Remove passenger side tire. Step two: Locate plugs. Step three: Break arm with lead pipe. I like to do this to my left arm, because Im right handed so breaking the left arm works the best in the long run. I haven't done my plugs (myself) yet, but I'll tell you that the passenger side O2 sensor is a real whore!

I ended up taking it to a friend's shop. He soaked it with PB Blaster, used a special socket, and used a long-handled , swivel ratchet. I removed the rubber "gap guard" for easier access.

I have a 91 ranger 4.0 and my plugs were not that hard to do. I changed 5 of them and my wife changed one. It was done in like 20 min. What makes mine diffrent from the rest? And is there a reason 91' 4.0 rangers are not common? Is there something I need to know?

So a BL really helps the access to the back passenger plugs?
