Superchip vs Doug

Aight so through my shop we found a way to get superchips for cost, so this excits me enough to go ahead and buy one. Anyway, my shop foremen does lots of superchip programing for his friends and has alot of experience with them. However I was wondering do you think doug could really do a better job and I should have him reflash it? I mean I want the best tune and I really trust my boss cause he has some of the most badass trucks I've seen. Just dunno if its really the best way to go?

I don't think there is anyone that knows the 4.0 engines better then Doug. He was making them using superchips tuners before superships ever offered them for rangers. I don't know of anyone on here that has bought a tuner form anyone else.

not sure what kind of deal youre getting, but i know doug is recognized by many people at THE ranger tuner. you are saying superchips, but do you mean SCT? because SCT is the one that does custom tuning. Its really up to you, if the price is much cheaper maybe you should go for it. Depends on how much money you want to spend. I dont know much about your boss but i would venture that he doesnt even have close to the experience with rangers as doug does.

It all depends on what you want and what you have done to your truck. Doug can squeek every ounce of hp or tq out of your motor that it will let go of easily.

I had a tuner from Doug on my 3.0 and loved it, got about 20 mpg in city w/ 33's and a few bolt on's. Also had Doug dyno tune my F-150 and that was fun. Man that was a long time ago. Lol.

Holy old thread batman!

btw, IMO tuning the motor is only 25% the real work for anyone w/a automatic tranny.

Im thinking about getting one also for christmas. What is the best tunes and gains received from one? I have a stock motor no mods with a auto trans and 4.10's w/33's. Are they worth the money in gains or helpful, noticable improvements?

Well more along the lines of like resetting it. When I did my odometer swap along with my cluster swap last week I tried to adjust my needle to where it would read right.

Well with my bros GPS I found out that any speed under 55 is off 2-4 mph and anything above 55 is spot on...

So can it be reset?

If you have the software, you can do it better with a laptop. Thats what I do with my car, mitsulogger and evoscan.

I don't know if they have similar software for Ford ecu's.

SCT pro racer is what "software" to get. (I have it and have tuned my ranger with it)

ringer4x4 That really is not an "option" with the x-cal. They come with 3 tunes and store your original tune in the tuner. I don't see any way you could erase your computer unless something really odd happens during the flash. Before flashing the PCM it's a REAL GOOD IDEA to make sure your battery connections are clean as well as the ground cables connection. And turn everything electrical OFF.

it happened though... had to be towed to dealership for the truck to be reflashed by dealer ( got another pcm) was using a jet handheld programmer at the time... think imo money better spent just getting udp instead... at least jet paid for the repair
