Icon5 Throttle Linkage Cover Bolt Size

Hey y'all,

I'm digging around and can't seem to find the bolts for my throttle linkage cover. It's a 97 XLT, 4.0 OHV engine. Lost them a while ago but just thought about trying to find them while I'm on lunch break.
Does anyone know what size/thread pitch those are? It's not the end of the world if I don't find 'em, but it would make the engine bay look a little bit nicer if I had it on.

Bump

I know it's a metric size, but I can't remember if the head of it was 8mm or 10mm, nor can I remember the thread pitch. I'd love to just go buy new bolts from the parts store but seeing I don't have 'em, that makes things a bit difficult
Any resources are helpful, even just pictures of one of the bolts
Again, this is for the 4.0 OHV

Are they a "machine screw thread", such as 6x1.5 (metric, obviously) or 1/4-20 (English/SAE) OR ARE THEY DEEP THREADED SCREWS FOR PLASTIC?

If they are machine screws, do yourself a favor. Get a cheap, metric tap and die set. You'll always be able to find out by trying.

Georgeandkira,

They're machine screws, thankfully! That sounds like a good idea, I think I'll go that route or find a cheap thread pitch gauge (guy at the parts store recommended that yesterday). I think Harbor Freight has a kit with both. Thanks for the reply!
Also, I've included a picture of where I'm talking about. Probably should have done that from the get-go

I lost one of them. Matched it up with a stainless self tapping screw at Menards. The kind with the self drilling tip on it. Got them longer and used a cutoff wheel to get rid of the tip then tapered the end a bit. Its very course thread. I can take one out and get some measurements for ya if that'll help

Throttle cover screws

Attached photos. Got them at Menards in the fastener bins. Came with a stainless washer and a sealing washer as well. Got them in the stainless fasteners. Had a drill like point on it but the thread matched the original. Got them long enough to cut the point off I believe the length is about 5/8 inch and the screws were about an inch long before I cut them using a carbide wheel. Knocked the bur off on the side of the wheel and dressed with a file for a little taper for easy starting and test fit. Nice look I think. Laid it on the decal for reference. Hope that helps
