muffler strap

I have a 99 4.0 that has a broken muffler hanger. I assume it is a strap type hanger that wraps all around the muffler and is supported by two rods which go through the rubber hangers. I can't seem to find one. Got one from advance auto and it is too short. Any ideas?

It's not even close. The muffler on the truck has a casing around it. Don't know what type it is but it seems to be in decent shape.

Ford doesn't use muffler straps like that. That's GM style.

Ford uses steel hangers that are welded to the muffler or pipe.

If one rusts off, you get a new one and weld it on.

Thanks Murphy, that does explain my inability to find the strap. Going by the dealership to see what my alternatives are. Seems like a poor system to secure the muffler.

Those straps are made for the aftermarket mufflers... not the OE ones. The OE mufflers on most vehicles are slightly larger than the aftermarket ones which is why it won't fit! You'll likely have to try and modify an aftermarket strap or weld something up!
