Where's my antifreeze going?!

Popped the hood to do an oil change not that long ago...and noticed there's almost no coolant in the
Res. It takes the motor a while to warm up (the temp HAS gotten colder lately, but it's got me worried...) Does the 4.0 SOHC have a coolant leak problem? Is there anything I should know? I searched "Antifreeze" in the 4.0 forum...but didn't find much. Any help or info you guys feel like sharing would be sweet. Thanks.

There's no puddle under the truck, there's no mixture in the oil, there's no spray under the body....It's kinda scary/frustrating.

the owner's manual should say. or there may be a data plate somewhere in the engine bay with that spec.

-11?! HA! I thought it was a tit bit nipply down here....it's about 28 here. No coolant smell from exhaust, although there is QUITE abit of condensation, even after the truck has been running for a while.

Just keep adding fluid till it stays consistent as there may be air in the system. If it doesn't ever stay consistent after, maybe a gallon you can have it pressure tested to see if it hold pressure. If it doesn't there's a leak somewhere. A rad cap is a cheap thing too that sometimes needs replacing as it can leak steam.

if you go to Autozone or Advance or anywhere there are 2 brands that say "Mix with any color"

and that stays true for anything thing except one color/make i forgot what one it was, if any..

Mine is leaking again. I noticed a small leak last winter and then it stopped. I can smell coolant burning in the engine bay. I had the same smell last winter. Strang that it returned just as it started getting cold. I whonder if there is a sensor or a seal that leaks when the engine cools faster. I don't have a coolant smell from the exhaust, but just yesterday I noticed a sulfer smell from the exhaust after fulling some fourwheelers up a pretty steap hill.

Any ideas what may be leaking. Something on the block I assume since I can smell it burning in the bay.

A leaky headgasket or cracked head is also a reason for dropping/burning coolant.

Well...I noticed a thread about the 4.0L eating thermostats....so I figured I'd get some hits if I posted a thread about coolant. Didn't think it was such a common, if non-noticed, thing! Now...next question....I've the urine-yellow coolant. Not green, Not red, Not any other color in the Effing Rainbow....where do I GET said Urine-Freeze?

you can get the urine at any autoparts store. They call it gold.

I hear that the waterpump is known to fail as well. I do have the ticking sound that is associated with the WP bearing failing.

If my waterpump were leaking it would burn off on the engine and I would smell it the bay correct?

Also if I needed a head gasket or head it be mixing with oil and burning right? Since my oil is great and there is nothing in the exhaust that should be OK, I hope.
