How do you guys like the sound of your flowmaster 40 series? I went to the shop today and my buddy even had one on his older 4runner.. sounded wicked, not too loud and not even close to ricey. sounded strong as hell so that kinda helped my decision. had a 40 series on my 240sx too back in the day and even that sounded good.

Just getting the old muffler chopped off, having this one welded on and just gunna reattach that piece that goes over the axle and leave it at that. As of now i just have it cut off with a sawzall as soon as it turns down over the axle. thats all i plan on doing, nothign fancy just yet.. maybe later i might go dual out but for now i dont really care, just want the sound!

i love mine right now there is nothing after the muffler and it sounds nice and slowing down from 60 it has a cool poping sound but as soon as i get my job im getting the run and 45ed out the back with 3inch tips maybe 3.5 depends on the look, oh and make sure to get dual out it will be a little cheaper and sound a little better

You'll love it, Ryan. Gut that triangle cat and it'll sound MEEEEAN!!! 04+'s tend to be a little tamer with a muffler swap compared to 01-03 4.0's because of the differing cat arrangement.

I had a super 40 on my ranger sounded good. I have a regular 40 series on my fiddy, it's friggin loud. I set off a car alarm today...... you won't regret a flowmaster. Sounds a pinch ricey at high rpm's though

Ryan...is it too late to make that a Super 40 or Super 44? Both are significantly deeper and IMO sound better than the Delta 40 and the Delta 40 is leaps and bounds better than an Original 40 on these engines.

I had a flowmaster 40 on my 4.0 ranger and it sounded good, droned a little but not bad.
I disagree about the 4-runner not sounding ricey though! I hate the sound of Toyotas with exhaust. lol

well got the muffler thrown on, just the ol chop and swap, no custom piping or anything. Cut off the old one, welded on the new one, still got all my cats and stuff. Its definately louder, but not so loud that it pisses me and th eneighbours off. I cant even hear it from inside the cab but its nice and deep outside the cab. I guess you could say im happy with it, cost me next to nothing all said and done and i got all i wanted, which was a big louder but not too much louder.

Sweet Ryan. yeah...with a tailpipe and stock tubing, pretty tameish.

If you don't know what flowmaster it is, on the inlet side, there's an etched or stamped part number. Just write that down and compare it to Flowmaster's website to figure out what exactly it is.

I have a 50 series dumped and love it, except for the drone on the highway. So I dont know how you can stand the 40's HW drone

its because yours is dumped. it will drone all the time. i have the 40 and i dont get any drone untill after 80 MPH. tailpipes make a big difference.

I run one on my '02 ExplorerSport 4.0 and it has a 3" inlet into dual 2&1/2" outlet Super 40 and I have duals run straight out the back with 3" tips. Sounds nice and throaty without any ricey tone at all.
