06 3.0 carb V8 swap
06 3.0 carb V8 swap
Hey guy's I'm wanting to know what all needs to be done to put a carbed 5.0 in since wiring a expo efi wouldn't be an easy task. I have some general knowledge and I have help if needed. I just wanna find out what I'm getting into before I take apart my daily driver and go oops. Standard or automatic.
Because the 3.slow has no power and I like my 06. Why does anyone wanna put a V8 in there little ranger? I know the answer...more power in a light truck. I have 110,000 miles on it and I'm sure it could go further. I can't afford to go buy another truck so why not drop a 302 in it and call it day. I just helped another guy on here drop an expo 5.0 in his older ranger and would like one in mine as well.
It should be easier.... sort of. I mean if you are running a carb then you dont have to worry about any of the electronic bull. But also you are going to have to put in new gauges new tranny, new pretty much everything. Because the engines computer tells everything what to tell uou... know what I mean.
We don't have those laws here in FL I think.

Are there any V8 swaps in my year model or similar think I can see what they did or are most of the swaps with the older trucks where its an easier swap. I guess most guys have the problem of swapping different year model engines in their vehicle due to their state laws. I haven't found any swaps with my year model carbed or efi so if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Thanks.
really wtf i hate the dmv, how would they know though?
they can find out through your insurance company...doesnt make any sense but they can...also if FL has a yearly inspection like we do up here they can see then

Guessing from your login name you have an 02 ranger which means you can go efi I believe if you choose to do so. You will be able to swap everything from an explorer and is close to being a plug an play but is still a lot of work and can run into problems if you don't have the wiring diagrams from your donor vehicle and yours. There are plenty of threads on here that you can look at for that swap. My year truck is different so carb is pretty much the best way for me to go. No inspections means do as you wish. Insurance company will have no idea but I'm sure they wont cover any damage to it if you had an accident.
Carbed 5.0 DD? Sounds iffy. And you will pretty much have to gut your entire electronic system. Plus rework the fuel system. Pump and everything.
Go with a 5.0 EFI like everyone else. More reliable and more support on here for advice.

Won't be a DD unless it was efi. What electronics would I need to gut? Fuel pressure regulator with a return wouldn't solve that issue? I would do an efi swap like everyone else if there was any support in doing my year model truck. The info I've gotten is that they changed the wiring. So 5.0 efi swap won't really work for me unless you can change the wiring and make it work.
I'm still confused as to what weird wiring your referring to. EFI would be a lot of wiring in my truck. Please explain if you know more cause I don't really think it would be easier than putting a carbed engine.

your braking systems, fuel system, tachometer, transmission, speedometer, warning lights etc. all run off the electronics system. i would say the GEM module but I believe that is only in pre-04 trucks so it would be the PCM most likely. the PCM takes reading and such from your engine. If you put a carbed engine in it has no way of reading the signals, therefore you will receive no data.

Cool, I'm glad you got some more info from so more experienced people with the situation. Like I said and Bob would most likely agree, the 5.0 EFI swap is gonna be your best bet simply because of support here. No one here has done a 04+ carbed engine and it's jsut an unknown area.
