2002 Ranger 5.0 swap lift tires brakes mid life crisis!

Hey guys,
I've acquired a 02 ranger and a 97-99 mountaineer awd model. I read somewhere that the transfer case on ranger should be upgraded. A buddy of mine has a 03 f250 that he's scrapping will that case work behind the the transmission? Also will the 5.0 bolt to the 4.0l sohc transmission or use mountaineer trans too? I read on upgrading brakes as well so input on what upgrades there be helpful. Ill be installing 35s and 5 inch lift too. Ive wanted this build for 30 yrs. Finally available to afford it!!

I have never heard this, other than maybe people wanting a manual shift transfer case

Probably not, it's a much larger case so it might not fit within the frame rails.

Also will the 5.0 bolt to the 4.0l sohc transmission or use mountaineer trans too?

No, they have different bellhousing patterns, so you would need to use the mountaineer transmission.

You can upgrade to rear discs via swapping in an Explorer rear axle, or by utilizing Mustang rear brake parts. There are how-tos for both in our How-To section. Up front you can upgrade to some quality rotors and pads from an aftermarket company that specializes in performance braking. EBC is one of them. I'm running 35's on my Ranger with Mustang rear discs and the braking isn't terrible, but it's not the best either.
My answers are in red.

Thank you i appreciate your help! The ranger says off road on the side and i noticed the differential is much larger then my sons ranger similar year. So maybe i can just bolt the disc brakes from mountaineer on that axle. Ill figure it out. I know ill have to remove the proportioning valve..

Your truck probably has the 8.8 and your son's truck has the 7.5.

You can use your stock transfer case if you don't plan on doing any serious off roading. Advanced Adapters makes a kit that allows you to bolt the Mountaineers tranny to the Rangers transfer case. That way you can also use the Rangers driveshafts. As for the brakes, I think the best option is to swap the axle from the Mountaineer. That's what I did and then changed the differential to a Ford Racing L/S and gears to match the front (4:10).

I just got off phone with Advanced adapters. I must overhaul explorer trans with their outputshaft in order to get the explorer transmission to bolt to ranger transfer case. Seems like there must be an easier way. Is there a explorer transfer case that will work or can i turn my awd explorer transfer case to 4wd. I also just ordered 4" super lift kit for it. Id like to run 33s on this. Do i need a stock set back wheel or special setback? My rotors on the explorer are11.25 inch factory. Is there an upgrade to something larger or these ok? Thanks to all for help
