OK well if i play my cards right im gonna be gettin a 475 out of a pulling truck that has about 810hp or a have a302 that came stock with 200hp that i wanna have sent out and bored .30 to convert into a 347 stroker

Thinkin about the same lines as scott ( extremely high 04 ranger) but not as big was just gonna run 38" ground hawgs under about 9" - 10" of lift and SAS and a V8 conversion as noted with this thread ..i plan on a badass street truck but i also wanna run 300ft mud drags...

I never said any of your information was wrong. It's just when you read what people have said it sounds like swapping in a 460 is all a bunch of cutting, welding, and hammering. Yet, when you look at the 460 swap site that was posted earlier, there's none of that. The firewall and trans tunnel are untouched. The steering box hasn't been moved. The frame and crossmember haven't been altered. Other than some steering shaft work it doesn't look much different than a 302 swap, just a little less wiggle room.

Yeah, but you also gotta remember the site (BigBlockRanger) is a street truck. No 4x4 hence more room up front. And it's an older Ranger which if I'm correct has way more room up front. And I'm pretty sure the guy will need a big ass cowl on the hood to make it fit. But your right. He didn't have to cut anything. I think he had to notch the floor to get the tranny to fit, but it's been awhile since I read the updates.

Ive seen a solution to the power steering i wanna try and thats a hydrualic steering like most pullin trucks have

hydraulic steering is NOT street legal.......and wont pass PA inspection....heck i doubt PA emission laws will allow a 460'd Ranger to pass...

My uncle does inspections at the local shop so im covered there lol but i was just thinkin hydrualic steering is a solution just didnt know if it was street legal or not

yeah big blocks are all about how you build. just like the 440 from chrysler. good engine stock. not as good as the hemi. could be alot more powerful than the old 426 hemi but it would use a **** load of gas and be really really expensive to get up there

I would suggest at finding an older F-series with a 460 drivetrail. Use that transfer case and axles. You will have to experiment with the drive shaft lengths and suspension ( front and back ) but it sounds like you already plan for such already.

All i could say about it is if a man is gonna build it... then build what a man wants to build.. he wants 460, give him 460 pointers.. not 302 1's.. good luck with ur build

The toughest thing about a 460 in a '94 Ranger 4x4 is getting the oil pan to clear the back of the TTB's. It's close on my 2wd.

Oh yeah, my floor pan is not modified, and the big bell C6 fits like a glove.

OK I know I'm the new guy here but this seems to be a fairly strait forward swap. Alot simpler than my 460 in my 81 Mustang. You are going to put a strait front axle up front right? So you can eliminate the factory crossmember under the motor, box the frame in and build a tubular member to fit the motor in there. By doing this you can control the side to side as well as the hood clearance. As for steering if you are going to street drive this truck I would steer clear of hyd, go to the salvage yard and look under some of the older rigs they have steering boxs. 2WD F trucks have a box that is behind the axle Chitlet's have them up front and depending on which on you get can mount on either side of frame. Scouts have a box that sits dang near on top of the frame rail but has a long sector shaft that has the arm under the frame for a crossover steering arrangment. Sorry about this being so long but I love custom stuff like this and for my 2 cents Big Block Fords rule :)

I found something you should see with your own 2 eyes. And everyone else should check this out as well. go to www.rangerpowersystems.com and look at the truck of the month. This swap has been done only he swapped out a 2.4 4 banger in his for the 460. He said the clearance issues were not that bad. But he did have to relocate the steering box and go with a different oil pan. It looks stock. If PA is like my state be prepared to be called a track only truck. They put a cap on the size of V8's in my state. The reason, is due to structurial integrity(I think it's B.S. myself). The highest I can go is 330 cubic inches by an unwanted law. Also go with the same year as your truck, it will help with passing in emissions, in fact some states require this.
