My truck? Well thanks man. Good luck on the 460 install. Definitely take some picture if you go through with it. I'm always curious about awesome stuff like this.

Haha... good tips cause that big baddy isn't gonna fit otherwise. Haha...

ProjectBeastlyRanger 08-16-2007 07:29 PM

I always carry a BFH lol and i dont have all the other stuff on hand or a garage i gotta do this hillybilly style but what font axle would be tough enough to with stand at just a dana 60

Rooks 08-16-2007 09:54 PM

Front axle? Your going with a 4x4 with a 460?!?! Wow... depends a lot on the tires I suppose. But yeah I'd say you'll have to go Dana 60s to hold up to that torque.

What's your overall plan for the project? Do you want a huge truck running 40s with the 460? Or still a streetable truck running like 33s with the 460? Giving the overall plan (even if it's a guess at this point, yeah I've been there, haha) will help people give advice on what you need.

My91Ranger 08-17-2007 06:01 AM

There was a guy on TRS named SuperSplash that had a 460 he installed in his little truck, might be worth a minute to find him

Rooks 08-17-2007 06:53 AM

Yeah. Wasn't he running 44s or something with that? That was a cool truck.

Actually he's on this site as well.

https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=34094

Don't think he's very active as his last activity was 4-27-2007. But he does have a 460 in there.

My91Ranger 08-17-2007 07:18 AM

Yea thats the guy. I know he's done a bunch of burn out contests with it, those are always awesome pics. I actually saw another 460 ranger in my area for sale on craiglist, but I think it was bored over to 550 or something crazy.

Edit: Here is the autotrader link for it 460 Ranger

lifted97ranger 08-17-2007 07:25 AM

if you do it, be ready to box the complete frame.....the Rangers stock frame wont handle all the torque that a 460 has.....it will twist in half like a twislers...

lifted97ranger 08-17-2007 07:35 AM

also, be ready to add lifted springs to the front.....a 460 is a HEAVY engine....it will weigh the front of the truck down bad......stock 4.0 springs can handle a 302 because the weight difference between a 4.0 and a 302 is marginal.....the weight difference between a 4.0 and a 460 is HUGE...

lifted97ranger 08-17-2007 07:36 AM

oh yea and you would need to build yourself either a serious 9" or a Dana 60 rear end....an 8.8 wont hold the torque of a 460....

Here's the best pointer you'll get:

Talk to the people who have actually done the swap. It's the only way you'll get accurate infomation.

lifted97ranger 08-17-2007 10:49 AM

just because someone hasn't done the swap (there isn't many people who have) doesn't mean that everyone else isn't able to give someone pointers....

none of the information that i posted above is wrong......

i would rather use a gm 14 bolt way stronger

Rooks 08-17-2007 11:22 AM

Just go with Rockwells running 54" Boggers. :fing26:

Give that 460 something to really push around. Haha....

lifted97ranger 08-17-2007 11:29 AM

:stupid:

INT3RC3PTOR 08-17-2007 02:42 PM

dana 30 out back will be perfect ;)

BigBowtie 08-17-2007 03:00 PM

460 is the best boat anchor ford ever made

pound for pound id do a small block but do what you do, ill give anybody that goes out to the garage and builds something props.

ps i know a guy with a 427 or 429 what ever that big block is in a like 94 explorer on deuce and a half's and tractor tires, ill see if i can get some pics

watch out... i said that on another ranger forum and got ripped apart

lifted97ranger 08-17-2007 03:18 PM

actually the 460 is a good motor......IF it is built properly......the older non emissions versions are good in stock form....

but that is like saying a Chevy is a good boat anchor....it all comes down to brand loyality...

BigBowtie 08-17-2007 03:23 PM

just a joke

but i never have been a fan of a big block, i think when you add dollars and horsepower a small block is where its at,

i agree....espically in a Ranger....the power that a 302 could be built at with a low budget is really good.....considering what kind of power to weight ratio the Ranger would have.......

and a 302 can be more easily swapped into a Ranger.....without all the excessive modifications...
