this is why im keepin my 3.0. while "everyone is doin the 5.0 swap", im gonna be the only one left rockin the 3.0.

HAHA! but seriously....i could probably count on two hands how many people have done the swap on this forum. its not that common. its just the thing that when people swap, thats what they swap to. i mean, not everyone can do a frikkin turbo diesel...

if its that played out then dont do the swap. i wouldnt mind doing one. as a matter of fact, thats probably what i will do when i do a swap. so i guess ill be in the played out crowd

I am wanting to find a used Chevy Colorado and put either a 5.3L or a 6.0 in it. I know you can get the 5.3 in a Colorado now but why waste all that extra money and do it yourself

A 6.0 with a car intake and oilpan is a great smaller packaged motor, that actually makes some good power unlike a 5.0.

Check TRS and RPS, plenty of swaps besides SBF's going on. As for "5.0 is a grandma motor now" . . . companies are still releasing new aftermarket parts for the 302, and not just little odds and ends, I mean blocks, heads, kits, etc.. The only reason it seems "played out" here is because besides the 6.0 Ranger guy, the only other common swap here is the 302. Check a few other forums?

My brother has a 6.0 swap in his Z28 with the ls6 heads and a whole lot of other stuff. That thing is super fast! I would almost want the same stuff he has.

I think it is a little played out. It also doesn't help that when someone asks how to get a bit more power out of their engine the first response is always "swap in a 5.0."

I don't know about V8 front drive. It must torque steer like a MF and not turn when you turn the wheel.

I personally have a hard time believing that the 5.0 is played out, considering that MAYBE 5% (definitely not 10%) of the trucks here have it, and maybe a fraction of a fraction of a percent of Rangers you see on the road will have it. I have yet to see one with a v8 swapped Ranger personally. It might be the most common swap (for good reason I would say) but when the actual number of them that you see is so so small, its hard for me to see it as overused.

Plus, although a unique idea, a 2.3 turbo will never sound like a v8

btw i never ment that i hate the 302

i know its a good motor for a ranger

i know you can get big power out of it

i know korey is a stupid son of a *****

im saying that putting a 5.0 in rangers is as dull as dish water imo...

as for a 4.6

sure stigg drop it in there if ya got it ( i dont like ohc motors so i wouldn't) but its about what ya want

the whole point of this thread is more about the fact that im gonna drop a 460... in my ranger

than saying5.0's suck they dont thats just boring in rangers now a days

just my .02

About...

Aww **** it, I can't type like a retard anymore.
fact of the matter is, a 5.0 is not played out. When I actually see your motor, and the drive train together. With it running of course. Then I will think about your opinion. But now, honestly, all I can say is that we need D to rip you a new one.

If a diesel can be put in a ranger then any freakin gas will fit.

Its like my rhino project. Start with a rhino end with a tube chassis lol

Anything will fit in anything.

But how much work do you wanna do?

Take a few weeks drop in a 5.0 with all your gauges working, wiring very simple ect. Maybe build it into a stroker.

Drop in a 460 - Custom wiring, custom fire wall, custom frame work I would guess, custom blah blah blah.

With all this work I would just buy a 2wd cummins and be done with it :)
