99 explorer 5.0?
Hey guys. I have a buddy who wants to sell his 99 explorer with a 5.0 in it. It has about 150k on the engine (thats what the odom. said) Its very clean and i believe they took good care of it. All of you v8 heads, is this a good engine for a swap? Should i look for another engine (like from a lincoln or something)
Also another important question. If i do this swap, could i take my 4.0 SOHC and put it in the explorer? I would like to try and keep it for a grocery getter and to pick up my child.
Any and all advice (even criticism) will be accepted.
Thanks guys.

I don't see why the 99 5.0 wouldn't work, I'm pretty sure a couple guys here have used that engine.
You should totally trade engines, when and if I do the V8, I'll prolly do the same thing.

I'm doing my swap today, i got the transfer case and the tranny out of expo this morning, motor is all ready to come out. only problem really is the wiring and crap since yours is 04.
and as of putting your motor in the expo, i'm not sure on.

Yeah i was going to look for your thread last night and ask if you had any progress. So I need to also swap out the trannys also? Im not too knowledgeable about engine swapping and stuff like that.
since mine is 99 i have manual hubs, so i'm just swapping the AWD transfer case as well, until i either find a manual tcase to swap in, or get an adapter for the ranger one.
and yeah the expo tranny goes right in. i don't really have a thread up on it since its been at the mechanics for 3+ weeks now and all thats been done is they pulled my truck apart, today alone basically i took out the tranny and tcase. taking a few hour break now to eat/hang with my lady and then go back and hopefully have most of it in the ranger tonight. i don't really have much pictures since i was filthy and didn't wanna dirty my new leica :)

my suggestion is to pull the entire wiring harness from the explorer
strip out all the un-necessary electrical connections and transfer it to the ranger
( i:e rear interior lights , rear pass door open chime switch, etc )
that would be the easiest way i would do it
