Inspection with swap?

Is there anyway that if I swapped my 2.5 out for a 5.0 that I could pass inpection? A certain year motor or something, or will the test know and fail it? Does knowing the inspector get you anywhere anymore?

most states if you are swapping in a different motor than stock require the motor to be of the same year or newer as the vehicle.....They also require all the emissions equipment to be installed on the engine like it was from the factory....

you need to contact your local inspector and find out.....

In NY state on any vehical thats 1996 and newer has to have the comuter port. They plug into this for inspection, so if its not fuctional then it wont pass, per Albany not the inspector as that is where the information is sent when its pluged in. So if there are any codes in the ECM it wont pass. There is some exseptions as far as the coast of repairs if there are codes but I think its like $700 before they will think about it. Then I dont know if its just a temp sticker or not, that part im not sure of. So if your going to build a V8 Ranger stick with something older than a 96 so it doesnt have to be pluged in. Mine is an 86 with a 90 5.0 HO so it doesnt matter. The only thing that an inspector might question is catalitic convertors. I dont have any but I know the inspector so they dont care that they are not there. Others might but im not sure. Good luck

Here's what I was told not too long ago. I can do a V8 swap but I have to use the same year engine and ECU as my truck, and I can only go as high as 347 C.I.D on the engine. You guys may not have a limit on the size of the displacement like I do. They put a cap on the size in my state for some stupid reason other than emissions. They're worried about structural integrity or some other B.S. Yes Big D. is right. alot of states have adapted this law, CA being the first (I think). Knowing the inspector doesn't help you in the long run either. It might at first, but if you get pulled over and they break out the portable emmissions checking machine and it fails, that inspector could lose his permits for doing inspections and his shop could be fined. I got that info from a federal D.O.T officer not long ago. He also said that it really depends on what state you live in cause some are just now getting started doing inspections and some don't have any inspections.
