Icon9 grrr... failed inspection

stupid Mass. inspection... passed everything including emissions and they failed it for a small leak in the cat. it was a small split in a seam about 2 inches long.. definitely leaking but still the cat was working and no CEL.. bastids...

anyhow the shop that did the inspection told me the entire exhaust was''gone'' and need $500 for a new cat and new all back from there... told them i'll see you for the re-inspection (free).
went to the guys that do all my hot work and they showed me the small leak in the cat so i had them cut it out and replace with a new cat.. rest of exhaust was fine with no leaks...and.. they didn't wreck the o2 sensors. result over $300 savings..

went back to the original inspection shop for the free retest passed no problem.

i hate when shops try to say something is wrong when it isn't ...

I take the 'Inspection ' shop also did repairs ?

$$$$$$$$$ Gotta make a buck somehow these days.
There will always be crooked mechanics.
Probably trying to get that Christmas bonus before their job is terminated.

no no !! as i said i took it my guys that do my hot work.. a different shop and the bill was $300 less...
maybe i'll get those guys to do plugs+wires and install a flowmaster muffler because they were actually honest and have done a lot of quality work for me before.

Mass just follows Cali's regs. So they're just as bad.

No, I'd say worse... I've never failed an "inspection". All they care here is that you have cats, the sniffer does the rest. They don't "inspect" anything but emissions.

Nope. If they test for emissions its likely the same as we've got here.

Don't get a flowmaster, you won't pass inspection. In MA you cant have anything louder than stock. A ticket for too loud of exhaust also counts as a moving violation.

hmm that so. the report just said it passed .. no list of limits or anything. i guess you only see that if you fail?
my son's VW failed for NOX so we put a new cat on and it passed. i seem to
remember the readings were listed then but that was an OBD1 car.

so what's all the hubub about CA emissions then?

all i know is they all bite. another way to rip $29 off you every year.
