5.0 Mazda
Well i guess i can start the thread now since i have a quick question on the topic anyways. No pictures will be up for a while but there will be a ton taken through the process. The plans are a 5.0 out of a 99-01 explorer with the crane 1.7 roller rockers and torque monster headers and electric fans also. Thats the only performance for now, im sure it will change once i get opinions from people and learn what parts are the best and all. But my first question is if i was going to get my motor from pull a part (which is a u-pull it type yard) How would i remove the motor without a hoist? IDK how heavy these 5.0 are but there will be a few of my buddies there to help. May be a silly question but i figured someone on here has done a junkyard motor swap and can give me some ideas.
Thanks!
Thanks!

i'm not sure you'd even want a motor of any of the 5.0s that may be there, atleast around me I wouldnt. They are all trashed if they leave them in the vehicles usually. or as of late all 5.0 explorers at any of my yards are they from the stupid CFC program that the motors were killed with the liquid glass crap or whatever. Man I saw one at my local yard with 95k on it..I sat there looking at that truck for like 20mins just thinking..wtf nice going *******. that thing has less miles than mine, and now it was detroyed for nothing.

That was the dumbest thing America has ever done besides put Obama in office.
But anyways....well everything here isnt too bad. The thing is you have to get there first. I dont want half a motor. I wanna get the complete motor in one trip. I might start making trips this weekend. They have a 99 i have seen out there and its still there. so i may go see what i can get off it. Starter/alt/ac compressor/ wiring/ etc. just so i can feel better. I think that'll be the hardest stuff to find. I can get the motor and tranny anywhere if i get too impatient. lol

I saw his truck and thats a little bit more than what im looking for. He did a complete custom setup. lol I didnt even bother talking to him. I just want to know what all is gunna be involved in putting the ford 5spd in my truck. What tranny do i need, clutch pedal, anything with the cpu need to be changed? It's all stuff people on here can tell me in one post. Or would it be such a pia that i would be better just to find an auto explr tranny for it.

Here's an excellent writeup on swapping a v8 explorer to a 5speed. Very close to what you would have to do.

Well i guess i'm going to just go out on a limb and try the 5 spd. I know i'm looking for an m5r2 out of a 97'-01' f-150. Just want to re-check something first though. I saw that a guy on the ex forum put a 1354 right up to his 5.0 5 spd without an adapter. So what im getting is that once i find the right 4x4 m5r2 and tailhousing it should pretty much be a direct bolt up as far as the t-case to tranny. Is this correct? (I know that driveshaft lengths may be different)

^^^Look in that guys sig. That is the link to thread of the m5r2 with a 4406, then in his sig he does the 1354 swap. I love my 1350 and dont wanna get rid of it, its been way too good for the few months ive had it. lol But if it breaks, i'm jus gunna skip all the bw crap and go straight to np 203 or 205. (I think that is the 2 gear driven cases, besides atlas II)

I didnt think it was because i read and thought he mentioned something about the 5 spd in it. And he didnt put the five speed in it until he had a 5.0. Must have misread. Guess im gunna just go with the dumb ol 4406. Kind of a bummer.
But on the brighter side, goin to pull-a-part saturday. Definately gunna try and find the cheap stuff, Alternator, Clutch pedal assembly, AC Compressor. Shift stick and ****. Just the little cheap knick knacks. I get to start spending money this winter when i go back to my old job and make twice what im makin now. lol

Had a pretty sucessful day so far. Went to the yard and picked up the following off a 99' Eddie Bauer.
Couldn't fina any clutch pedal assemblies or standard steering columns, still on the look for both of those. Prolly gunna hit up another yard next saturday. I'm just takin it easy for right now b/c im on a tight budget till after thanksgiving. So im keeping my budget under $100 for every yard trip. This is really all they had on the eddie bauer besides motor mounts, but i wasnt about to pull that piece.
Everything:
Battery Harness:
PS Pump/Resovoir, and i think this is the cpu i need, Let me know if its not please :)
Engine Wiring Harness:
The new parkin Spot for a while:
And my 5.2 daily driver, miss drivin the mazda....

You're better off trying to get a complete motor instead of piecing it together. Always nice to have spare parts though. (i've done both ways, piecing together is a #*%*@)
As for the cpu, if its from a 99-01 5.0 its the right one, but you'll need to either have PATS programmed out or get the steering column and pats module from the same vehicle.
