Is there a adapt plate for a 302 to a five speed from a 2.9L
Is there a adapt plate for a 302 to a five speed from a 2.9L
I just bought this ranger and I cannot get the 2.9 running for ****,I have change every sense plugs wires cap rotor distributor ran compresion test which was good,so I said screw it and got the 302 idea, this truck is not really off road more show so I think the light duty trans will be fine if I can get a adapter to match them up.taking all suggestions for this project, never delt with ford before, but I'm quickly converting.thanks
The problem might be that you could destroy that transmission real quick with the power of a 302, lol. If you're going to do the sway, you ought to go all the way I think.
I understand the need to just get it done though. If you do figure it out, just go easy on it.

Among Ford transmissions, the C5 and C6 are both automatics. The T5 is a manual.
I agree with the other posts - the manual transmission from the 2.9L will not live behind a 5.0L. It is not worth the effort to adapt it.

I would give that 2.9tranny about 2 or 3 good launches, and its case or mainshaft will give out ( more then likely the case ) .
If your gonnan use an auto, a C4 is cheap, common, and has a plethora of aftermarket parts. C6's are rare and do NOT have a removable bell housing. FInding a 6 bolt SBF C6 is VERY hard and VERY expensive as most were used in larger trucks and Broncos.
For a Manual, the old school T5 is VERY common, boneyards are full of them. The prefered Trannies in Mannuals would be a World Class T5 ( thats what I presently have ) , Tremmec 3550 or a Liberty 5 speed ( what I'm moving to this spring ) .
A 302's strong point.. short stroke and like its older brother the 289, it can tac-up REAL quick and get into a lot of torque really fast. The 80's 302's only had 225HP ( just 20 more then a 4.0 ranger engine ) but they had 300_lb/ft of torque to go with it.
