The 5.0 swap exhaust thread

Alright guys (gals), Whoever has done this swap tell us about your exhaust. What you like, what you dont like, why you did it that way, or why you would change something. The idea here is to get a good basis of what works and what doesnt.

For starters my exhaust is as of right now just the factory manifold back pipes. I was going to custom make these and run race cats but bolt in and factory hanger location was nice as well as 02 sensor bungs. I will however be sending it to an exhaust shop for a custom back exhaust. I wanna do a dual in single out muffler all 2.5 inch with a stock exit tip. Keep it clean

Anyone else have any setups they wanna share?

My setup:

Torque Monster Headers
Both stock 99 Explorer 5.0 down pipes and all 4 stock cats (rear cats repositioned for clearance)
Large Magnaflow dual in / dual out muffler
Roush / SLP / Thunderbolt 2.25" tail pipes exiting under bumper

What I like:

Mellow V8 sound, not excessively loud, no drone, good performance.

What I will change the next time around:

For no apparent reason, my stock 99 Ex 5.0 passenger side down pipe necks down to roughly 1 3/4" in the first bend then goes back up to 2" afterwards. The driver side is closer to a consistent 2" without the neck down. I would like to up the PS to a 2" so both sides match the outlets of the headers. Simple fix.

If I feel ambitious, I also may redo the system using 304 stainless tubing instead of the current 409.

Didnt see this,

Mine:
Stock Manifolds
Stock 5.0 Down pipes with the rear 2 cats cut out
2 Cherry Bomb Glass Packs
Exiting in Duals before the PS rear tire.

Pros:
Cheap, homemade with a welder and bought pipe.
Nice and loud if you get on it, quiet if need be.

Cons:
I had to chop my DS downpipe so When I welded it together I was unable to get the manifold joint sealed so I have a small exhaust leak.

Reminds me to share mine. Factory down pipes with cats. Stock flanges. 2.5 inch pipe from down pipes back to a 2 in 1 out fake flowmaster. Stock exit 2.5 pipe. Sounds good and looks factory

What works on a 95 doesn't necessarily work on a 2000. Different frame and suspension. 98+ has upper control arms in the way that aren't present on the 97 or earlier. That's why only the stock manifolds or Ex 5.0 FRPP's or Torque Monsters will fit on the passenger side.

custom headers

i had some headers made that went out over the frame. they are 1 3/4 x3 headers. i had some long tube headers but the tubes was to small. im going to run the exhaust down the side of the frame up as high as i can get it.

this is my old set.

I've had a few different setups before.

i've always had all 4 cats

i had a really quiet muffler first, which was fine but i wanted something loud.

so i went to straight pipped, sounded killer @ idle, but way to loud to get up to speed.

then i put a flowmaster 40 series on it and fell in love. i should of done that the first time around.

The first one seemed to have more noise? or was that the straight pipe deal?

I am thinking about doing another one on my dads truck, he loves how my truck pulls the trailer and since his 4.0 is tired and the trans is slipping I might as well
