I have the 1995 stx 4.0 v6 now and im looking to swap in a 5.0 v8. Which engine would be the easiest to swap in with the least amount of modification?

Best one to get would be a 1996-2001 Explorer motor.

the mercury mountaineer was very comin with v8. if your budget is limited and you do not require AC you can serch salvage parts for the right combination of parts. you can build one cheap.
5.0 lincoln mark VII eng.
5spd tranny 91 thunderbird super soupe with hydrolic slave cyl. and throughout berring
flywheel / cluch / pressure plate / ECM = fox body mustang
94 mustang headers ? i used them on a 90 ranger and the worked good / cleared the steering shaft
timming cover / alt / PS pump / water pump / and pullys from a 5.0 crown vic
NOTE will also need a PS pump housing from a Tempo / Topaz 4 cyl because the return line enters the housing through the back not the bottom. you will also need a oil filter relocation kit. and electeric fan. the 90 ranger i built was the easyest 5.0 conversion i ever did. if the 2.5 goes out on my 2000 i will do another 5.0. one other thing i cant stress enough is to gather as much as you can no mater how insiginicant the part. it is a lot easyer to get rid of a part than find a part.
GOOD LUCK !!!!

If your state only does a Safety Inspection on the 95 and older vehicles then any FORD 302 or 5.0 Engine will do.
Not sure in your state but the 95 in MA either just makes it or just misses it, I think ’94 is the last year but OBDII started in 96 so I am not sure.

If I were to work on a 95 or older Ranger I would use the L&L Kit, it is IMHO the way to go but it is $$$.
Great machine work, HD headers, an Oil Filter Relocation Kit that could go on a show truck.

Again they charge for good workmanship.

luck,

L&L mounts won't bolt into a 98+ 2WD Ranger. You should be able to put the 302 in the ideal location using 4.0 OHC V6 motor mounts and custom stepped mounting plates.

i used a C5 from a 3.8 1983 couger and bolted it to a 302 so i don't see why the 5spd won't work. the only thing that should be a problem is the pilet shaft size. and you can get a bushing for that. the bolt pattern did not change from the 83 3.8L to the early 90s did they? the starter still sits in the same location. the 5 spd has a built in bell housing like the TK mazda in the 1/2 ton pickup. any thoughts on this that i am overlooking would be great.
